Artificial intelligence predicted that Germany and Argentina would play in the World Cup final and that the Argentines would ultimately win 2-1, according to research by Euronews journalists.
Euronews in German today writes that journalists are well-versed in the match schedule, FIFA's method of drawing lots, the rules on relegation of third-placed teams in the group stage, and all 495 possible combinations in the knockout round.
All of this data, as well as estimates of the strength of the national teams and detailed simulations of all the matches, was fed into the artificial intelligence Claude, from the company Antropik. The journalists went a step further and fed enough data for the AI to list the five most successful teams.
The answer was that Germany and Argentina would play in the final and that the Argentines would win the title with a 2:1 victory. As the best teams, AI listed Argentina, France, Spain, Brazil and Portugal in the following order.
And based on 500 different simulations, the AI gave the following chances to the Spanish-speaking teams - Argentina: 18,6 percent to win the title, 31 percent to play in the final.
Spain has an 11,8 percent chance of becoming champion, and a 19,8 percent chance of playing in the final, while Uruguay has a 2,0 percent chance of becoming champion, compared to a 4,0 percent chance of reaching the final.
The AI estimated Mexico and Colombia's chances of winning the championship at 1,6 and 1,0 percent, respectively, and the chances of them playing in the deciding match at 3,4 and 4,2 percent, respectively.
The AI gave Ecuador, Paraguay and Panama no chance of becoming world champions.
