French footballer Kylian Mbappe said after his team's victory over Senegal (3:1) at the World Cup that it is "always good" to start the World Cup with a win.
Mbappe was France's best player, scoring two goals and once again confirming his status as one of the best footballers of today.
With this performance, the French striker became the top scorer in the history of the French national team, and now he is only two goals away from the record of German Miroslav Klose, the top scorer in the history of the World Cup.
"It's always good to start the World Cup like this. It brings additional peace. We've seen from other national teams how difficult it is to open the tournament with a win," Mbappe said after the match, as reported by Spanish outlet Marca.
The France captain also addressed the criticism that has followed him throughout his career.
"There's no point in seeking revenge. If I played just to silence all those who criticize me, I would have to play until I was 80. I play to make history for my country and to help the team win the World Cup," Mbappe said.
