Tuchel: I wasn't even aware that Saka had scored a hat-trick

England national football team coach Thomas Tuchel said after winning third place at the World Cup that his team had created something special and that they showed it in the match against France.

"We had a brilliant first half and then a turbulent second half. You could see the difference in what one day does and the difference in the schedule. We are so, so tired and exhausted from the last few weeks," Tuchel said, as reported by British media.

"So a big compliment and a lot of respect for the mentality we showed. To come through all this adversity is absolutely brilliant," he added.

The England national football team defeated the French team 6:4 in Miami, thus winning third place at the World Cup.

"I was afraid of the physical demands of this match. We know the quality and speed of France, and they had a much easier schedule. They had one more day after the semi-final, and they had a much shorter journey than us. We played in the heat, at a high altitude. I was worried about the physical condition. You could see it in the second half, the cramps and all that fatigue, but at no point was I worried about the mentality," Tuchel said.

"I've said it before, this team has created something very special, and they showed it again today," the England coach said.

Tuchel also spoke about the changes after the hydration break in the second half.

"I'm not sure if we had more control. We just got fresher legs again and quality players. The others were tired. France played at their full potential and with a lot of risk, so we were lucky not to concede an equaliser, and then we finished it all off with a penalty and a brilliant goal," he said.

The treble scorer for England was Bukayo Saka.

"He did everything right. Bukayo showed that he is a key player. There is never any doubt about that. I was not even aware that he had scored a hat-trick. I lost track of the scorers, but brilliant," Tuchel said.
