Milatović on the Marović case: I received an assurance from Vučić that Serbia will behave responsibly
"My opinion is that everyone who has been criminally punished in Montenegro should also serve that sentence"
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, announced today that in a conversation with the President of Serbia, Aleksandra Vučić, he presented the case of the former high-ranking official of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Svetozar Marović.
Marović has been staying in Belgrade for seven years, although the Montenegrin authorities are persistently demanding his extradition based on verdicts for multimillion-dollar embezzlement in Budva.
"My opinion is that everyone who has been criminally punished in Montenegro should also serve that sentence, including Marović, so I put that issue on the table and received assurances from Vučić that Serbia will behave responsibly in this regard," said Milatović on at a press conference with Vučić, answering a journalist's question about whether he had discussed the extradition of Marović with Vučić.
Vučić said about the case of Marović that he will take into consideration everything that Milatović is talking about and that he will provide appropriate, well-founded answers.
"For me, something else arises as a question. They are looking for a reason to blame the other for something or disrespecting someone. Have you from Television of Montenegro thought when you come, does it hurt us that Montenegro recognized the illegal secession, without the charter of the United nation of part of the territory of Serbia. Have you wondered if we were hurt when our ambassador was expelled without noticing that there was a sufficient reason for such a thing. We will make a decision in the next ten, 12 days who will be the new ambassador to Montenegro." Vucic said.
He asked how it was possible that, according to official statistics, there are only eight percent of Serbs employed in the public sector, out of 28,73 percent of Serbs.
"Do you think that this is a less important question than Marović? Do you think that the question of a huge part of the viewpoint is less important than one man? Or do you think that it is necessary to show that Montenegro can always say something to Serbia? Of course it can "Everyone tells Serbia everything. Marović is not a taboo topic and there must not be taboo topics," Vučić said.
