The writer and SANA academician Goran Petrović passed away

Petrović's novels and collections of stories have been published in more than 130 editions, of which 60 editions have been translated into 15 languages.

After a short and serious illness in Belgrade, at the age of 63, writer and academician of SANU Goran Petrović died, reports RTS, saying that his family confirmed this to them.

Goran Petrović was born in Kraljevo on July 1, 1961. His novels and collections of stories have been published in more than 130 editions, of which 60 editions are translated into 15 languages, RTS reminds.

He entered the literary scene with the book of short prose "Advice for an easier life" in 1989. Since then, he has published the novels "Atlas described by the sky", "Siege of the Church of the Holy Savior", "Sitničarnica 'Kod srečne ruke'", "Papir" and " Iconostasis".

He is the author of short story books "Island and surrounding stories", "Relatives and Differences". Petrović also published a book of short prose "Everything I Know About Time", a book of records "The Searcher", a novella "Under the peeling ceiling" and the play "Matica", which was performed in Belgrade's Atelje 212.

Some of Petrović's prose works have been adapted for theater, television and radio: Siege of the Church of Saint Savior (dramatization and direction by Kokan Mladenović), Narodno pozorište Sombor, 2002; Scaffolding (according to his own text), production of the National Theater in Belgrade (directed by Kokan Mladenović), Orašac, 2004; radio drama The Virgin and Other Visions (dramatization by Sanja Milić, directed by Nađa Janjetović), Radio Belgrade Drama Program, 2007; television film Bližnji (according to his own script, directed by Miško Milojević), RTS drama program, 2008; radio-drama Above five dilapidated pots (dramatization and direction by Strahinja Mlađenović), Drama program of Radio Novi Sad, 2011; Matica (based on his own dramatic text, directed by Rahim Burhan), Atelier 212, 2011.

Goran Petrović is the recipient of several literary awards.

In addition to the literary scholarship of the Borislav Pekić Fund, more important awards are: "Prosvetina", "Meša Selimović", NIN's award for the novel of the year, "Vitalova", "Račanska charter", the award of the National Library of Serbia for the most read book of the year, "Borisav Stanković" , "Svetozar Ćorović", "Ivo Andrić" prize for short story, "Laza Kostić", prize for dramatic text "Kočić's book", "Knez Lazar's Golden Cross", "Veljkova golubica" for the entire short story work, Grand prize "Ivo Andrić" for overall literary creativity, "Stanislav Lem", "Grigorije Božović", "Golden Book of Matica Srpska", award of the National Library of Serbia "Vladan Desnica", "Beogradski Pobednik"...

He was a member of the Serbian Literary Society and the Serbian PEN Center. He was elected a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on November 8, 2018.
