About 60 environmental activists of the "Extinction Rebellion" organization, disguised as clowns, broke into the TotalEnergies oil refinery in the west of France today, where they protested for a little less than an hour, Agence France-Presse reported from the scene.

They entered the refinery through a cut fence, toured the site and dispersed. Activists wrote "Enough with crimes and clone games" on one tall concrete tank.

"The refinery has been knowingly polluting the environment for 100 years and putting us all at risk. We are here to make the climate emergency heard, at the scene of the criminal enterprise," one activist told AFP.

Several workers were present during the activists' protest, and members of the gendarmerie were also present.

The international organization "Extinction Rebellion" is particularly committed to recognizing the seriousness and urgency of the current environmental crises, as well as to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
