In Greece, 13 tourists from Kazakhstan were arrested because they used fireworks to cause a fire on the island of Hydri, in the Argosaronic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, between Athens and the Peloponnese.
The rented yacht from which the fireworks were set off on Friday evening was also seized, Greek commercial RTV SKAI reported tonight.
According to information, thanks to the reports of witnesses and navigation surveillance, they were arrested shortly after the fire broke out in the pine forest, on Hydra, where the rockets of their fireworks fell. Firefighters extinguished the fire the same evening.
The arrested Kazakhs will be brought before the criminal prosecutor in Piraeus on Sunday morning under an urgent, mandated procedure.
Hydra is one of the main points of tourism for a rich clientele in Greece, especially nautical tourism. It got its name because it has an unusually large number of water sources, and it is very wooded. In order to preserve nature, there are no motorized vehicles on that island. The island's beaches are among the world-famous beaches.
