Academy Awards: After a slap in the face at the previous ceremony, a crisis team was introduced to prevent incidents

"Let's hope that there will be no need to react and that we will never have to act on the plans that the team members came up with," Kramer pointed out.

From this year, the Oscars will be attended by a crisis team that will prevent incidents, such as the one that happened at the ceremony in 2022, when actor Will Smith slapped his colleague Chris Rock.

Bill Cramer, executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, told Time magazine that the crisis team "went through many scenarios" in hopes of being ready for anything.

"Because of the incident that happened last year, we were thinking about what could happen at the Oscars.

"Now the reaction will be faster," he says.

Janet Young, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has previously said the response to Smith's feud with Rock was not quick enough.

Smith slapped the comedian after he joked about the baldness of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia.

After returning to the place, the actor repeatedly threw at Rock: "Don't mention my wife's name", along with some derogatory words.

Despite the incident, he stayed at the ceremony and later won an Oscar for best actor for his role in "King Richard," the story of American tennis players Serena and Venus Williams and their father.

Although Smith later decided to withdraw from membership in the Academy, it has been several days since this was realized.

He's at the end of it forbidden to participate in the Oscar awards and other events of the Academy in the next 10 years.

Kramer said that the new team will be "made very quickly" in order to be able to react already during the event scheduled for March 12.

"Let's hope that there will be no need to react and that we will never have to act on the plans that the team members came up with," he added.

Big stars, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Edward Norton, praised the work of actress Andrea Riseborough in the movie "For Leslie".

Soon after, she was nominated for Best Actress.

Questions were raised as to whether their praise was against Oscar rules.

The Academy quickly responded that the issues surrounding the case "have not risen to such a level that the film's nomination should be withdrawn."

Asked about the effectiveness of responding to "potential surprises" at this year's ceremony, Cramer said it was an advantage to have Jimmy Kimmel as host.

“We wanted someone like Jimmy on stage, someone who was used to live television shows.

"Things don't always go as planned, so we're going to have a host that can really react in those moments," he said.

In 2017, Kimel saved the day after he La La Land mistakenly declared the best film.

"It crossed my mind that I was the only one with the microphone at that moment and that I was the one who should sort things out," the presenter said after the incident.

Last year's awards ceremony was hosted by Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall and Amy Schumer.

"It's important to have a host who knows how to handle live television and an audience," Kramer added.

He said he hopes this is "the beginning of a beautiful, long new relationship" with Kimmel.

Aware that television has a dwindling audience, Kramer announced that this year's awards will be "much more impressive, much more focused on the nominations and disciplines of filmmaking".
