A photo of mating flies called 'It Takes Two' by Pete Barford of Shrewsbury has won the Royal Entomological Society's Insect Week competition.
The annual amateur competition received more than 700 applications from 34 countries, and this year 24 pictures were awarded.
Burford specializes in macro photography and posts his work on Instagram and TikTok.
Gustav Parenmark, a 16-year-old from Sweden, won the category of authors up to 18 years old with a photo of a blue-tailed fly called "Just Bathed".

"Each year the competition receives better and better amateur photography entries," says Tim Cockerill, head judge and lecturer at Falmouth University.
"Interest in insects is growing as we begin to better understand their role in our lives," he adds.
A photograph of a hummingbird butterfly, taken by Marko Brauer, won second place in the over 18 category.

Insect Week, organized by the Royal Entomological Society, runs from 19 to 25 June, and you can find out more details in the new photo competition on their website.
