A retired Taiwanese Air Force colonel was sentenced to 20 years in prison for allegedly organizing and running a military espionage ring in favor of China.
Liu Sheng-shu is accused of recruiting other active officers to pass military secrets to Beijing.
Five other naval and air force officers were sentenced to prison terms ranging from six months to 20 years.
According to local media, the Chinese recruited Liu during his business trip to China in 2013.
He allegedly ran a network of informants, paying them through shell companies.

Prosecutors said the former colonel was paid to transmit and leak military intelligence such as details on the functions of aircraft and warships.
The authorities confiscated a little less than 500.000 euros, which they claim was illegally earned money.
In January, the Kaohsiung branch of Taiwan's High Prosecution Service indicted Liu and six other officers.
One of them has since been released.
In recent years, many former high-ranking Taiwanese military officials have been convicted of aiding Chinese intelligence.
The retired Air Force general was found guilty earlier this year of allegedly accepting meals and travel from a Hong Kong businessman who worked for Beijing.
His sentence was suspended because he repented and had no previous criminal record.
