Los Angeles police have launched an investigation into the death of actor Matthew Perry.

Perry, the star of the popular TV series Friends, died in October, and the cause of death is believed to be a high blood dose of ketamine.

The investigation will deal with how the actor got this substance.

One of the causes that contributed to death was drowning.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that it is cooperating with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the US Postal Inspection Service in the investigation into the death of the 54-year-old.

It is still not known at what stage the investigative procedure, which he first reported on, is at TMZ , as well as who was questioned.

Perry was found dead in the pool of the house where he lived in Los Angeles on October 28, 2023.

An autopsy in December found high levels of ketamine in his blood, the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office said.

Senior deputy medical examiner Rafi Djaburian added that other factors contributed to his death - coronary artery disease and the drug buprenorphine, which is used to treat narcotic addiction.

"The drowning happened when the actor fell unconscious in the pool, and the worsening of the heart disease was also influenced by the effect of the drug ketamine," he adds.

At the time of his death, Perry was taking ketamine under medical supervision to treat depression and anxiety, which was prescribed a week and a half before his death, according to the report.

At the height of his fame, Perry struggled with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and went to rehab several times.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2, he said that he does not remember the three years of filming the series A friendi, because of drink and drugs.

After trying treatment, he wrote in his memoirs that since 2001 he had been mostly sober - "except for about 60 or 70 times".
