He kept a cool head during the American Civil War, but more than 150 years later, his statue did not survive the heat wave.
The wax figure of American President Abraham Lincoln melted due to the high temperatures recorded on June 22 and 23 in Washington.
First the head melted, then one leg leaked from the torso, while only a footprint remained of the foot.
The chair sank into the ground.
The head of the six-foot-tall wax sculpture, installed in Lincoln Memorial Park, is now being reworked, with only wires sticking out of the neck.
In the past few days, meteorologists in the US have warned of a heat wave in cities on the east coast with temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius.

The monument to the 14th American president is in Barker, a former civil war refugee camp where African Americans were enslaved and freed.
Now there is an elementary school.
The wax statue is in front of Garrison School and is part of a series of monuments by Virginia artist Sandy Williams the Fourth.
The replica is not only a monument, but also a giant candle, and this is not the first time it has melted.
The statue was installed in the same location in September 2023, but the first version of the monument had more than 100 wicks.
On the eve of Lincoln Memorial Day, candles were lit too early, causing a significant portion of the figure to melt.

The new version set in February 2024 has fewer fuses.
"Please extinguish the fuse within a minute or two," reads the plaque in front of the wax bust.

During the weekend, a red alert was in effect in Washington.
High temperatures are expected to persist in the coming days.
The wax head should be installed again by the end of the week, local media reported.
