A Mercedes 'streamliner', driven by Formula 1 legends Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, has been sold at auction for just over 45 million euros.
Five-time Formula 1 champion, Argentine racing driver Fangio drove it when he won the 1955 Buenos Aires Grand Prix.
Briton Moss drove this car at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza that same year, setting the fastest lap at an average speed of 215 kilometers per hour.
The 'Silver Arrow', on display at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, has been sold at a Sotheby's auction.
This is the most expensive Formula 1 car that has won a major prize ever sold.
The previous record was held by another Mercedes V196 from 1954, which cost around 23,5 million euros.
Fanđo also drove this car.
It was sold in 2013.
The estimated value of the Mercedes V196 R, one of only four surviving examples, was more than 50 million euros, and the last bid was 46,5 million euros.
Buyer's premium is included in the final price.
That makes it the second most valuable car to change hands at auction, behind a sports car. Mercedes 300SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe from 1955 which was sold for 135 million euros in May 2022.
