'We haven't seen a princess and prince on a trip like this in a long time'
It's been a while since we last saw the Prince and Princess of Wales on a trip together like this.
Since Kate's cancer treatment ended, the princess has not traveled far from their home in Windsor, so her arrival and stay on the islands is of great significance.
Sources close to the couple say that William and Kate have wanted to visit Mal for a long time.
And it's not hard to understand why - the island's natural beauty is mesmerizing.
In recent years, Kate has been particularly vocal about how connecting with nature gives her strength.
During this visit, they will have the opportunity to experience this through a variety of activities, from visiting a local farm to learning outdoors with school children in an ancient forest.
It has been exactly 14 years since they were married at Westminster Abbey, with thousands of people following their wedding procession to Buckingham Palace.
Today's celebration will be a bit more modest.
The prince and princess will spend the night in a cottage on Male, and it is believed that they chose this particular location to support the tourism industry on the Scottish islands.
