Famous street artist Banksy has unveiled a new work, but where he painted it is currently a mystery.

In a photo posted on Instagram, this an artist who no one knows for sure who he really is, the shadow of a lighthouse created by a street pole is presented, with the words: "I want you to be what you saw in me" (I want to be what you saw in me).

But, while it is clear what was drawn, the post reveals little about the location of the artwork.

A second, wider shot showing two people walking their dogs provides a little more information.

While some social media users speculate that this work could have been in Marseille, in the south of France, others are trying to interpret what this work and message means.

Another piece of art circulating online shows a blurred person riding a scooter in front of the piece, and there is also graffiti on a wall that reads "Jaze" (It came).

The tag matches the one used by the Canadian graffiti artist. Marco The Polo, who posts his own works on Instagram, but has previously said that Banksy is his inspiration.

Throughout his career, Banksy has not revealed his true identity, and only through his Instagram account is it confirmed that the works are original, that is, his.

Political messages often permeate his works.

Thus, in some of his earlier works, he alluded to immigration, the war in Ukraine, and homelessness.

The meaning of some of his other works, however, is less clear, such as last year's a series of animals painted in locations around London.

In December 2024, Banksy published another work - picture of a woman breastfeeding a child with a hole in the wall that looks like a bullet wound in her chest.

The child looks upset.

Art critics believe that Banksy strongly alluded to traditional depictions of the Virgin and Child.

The street artist's post appeared on Instagram on December 16, 2024, and even then it was not known where he drew the work.

And then speculation began on social media - what does Banksy want to tell us?

Many on social media have drawn a connection between the apparent suffering of the mother from the city of Bethlehem in the occupied Palestinian West Bank, and the current war between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian extremist group.

Another user offered a different, philosophical interpretation: "Does this perhaps imply that a mother's life choices influence the milk she feeds a baby who has no choice but to accept it?"

"Or maybe the chemicals in our food go directly from mother to baby through breastfeeding?"
