American actor and director Woody Allen paid tribute to actress Diana Keaton, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 79, with a lengthy text full of praise.
On the website The FreePress Allen described Keaton as someone "the likes of which this planet has never seen, and probably never will."
"Her face and smile would light up any room she walked into," he added.
In a long personal essay, Allen recalled his first meeting with Keaton in 1969 during rehearsals for his play Play It Again Sam.
The director made eight films with the famous actress, including Annie Hall, for which Keaton won an Oscar in 1977.
"As time went on, I made films for one person - Diana Keaton," Allen wrote.
"I hadn't read any reviews of my works and only cared about what Keaton had to say about them."
U Annie Hall, Keaton played the eponymous, unusual, insecure, free-spirited girl, with whom Alvy Singer, played by Allen, falls in love.
At one point, Keaton and Allen were in a romantic relationship in real life.
Recalling their first meeting, Allen writes that he thought, "If Huckleberry Finn were a beautiful young woman, he would be Keaton."
The world is a "gloomier" place without her, he added.
"Still, her films exist. Her laughter still echoes in my head."
Keaton also starred in other Allen films - Manhattan, A vampiric Miles, Radio days.
Diane Keaton supported Allen, who was accused of abusing his daughter Dylan, which he always denied.
No charges were ever filed against him.
"He gave me everything. He really did."
"Woody made the atmosphere relaxed. That helped me a lot," Keaton told The Guardian in 2023.

The role of Kay Adams Corleone in the films Kum, brought fame to Keaton.
The actress, born in Los Angeles, went on to make films like Father of the bride i First Wives Club.
Frensis For Kopola, reditelj Kuma, like Woody Allen, paid tribute to the "exceptional" actress.
"Words cannot describe the wonder and talent of Diana Keaton. Infinitely intelligent, so beautiful," Coppola wrote on social media.
"Since her first role in cum and throughout her career, she was an exceptional actress. I saw her in the movie Lovers and other strangers, and I knew he had to play Kay in Teacher (which she told me she based on my wife Ella)," he added.
Coppola also stated that Keaton set a "new fashion trend".
"Everything about Diana was the epitome of creativity," he concluded.
