Celebrities and feminists in France are outraged by First Lady Brigitte Macron's statement about activists who interrupted comedian Ari Abitane's performance.
Abitan was accused of rape in 2021, but investigators later dropped the case, citing a lack of evidence.
Macron met with Abitane before his performance.
In a video circulating on social media, Abitane says he feels "scared", to which Macron responds "if there are any stupid women, we will throw them out".
Then he smiles.
Her team later told Agence France-Presse that she wanted to "criticize the radical method" of protesting against the comedian.
The statement by the First Lady of France has sparked numerous reactions from celebrities and feminists online.
They condemned the actions of the first lady and violence against women.
The action was organized by We all, a French organization that fights violence against women.
Most of them are using the hashtag of the insult Macron uttered on social media to express support for the feminist group.
They were joined by actress Židit Godreš, who herself accused the film director of rape, which he denies.
"I'm stupid as...," she wrote on social media, and Belgian comedian Florence Mendez said she was "proud" of it.
"I'm stupid too... in summer, winter, spring and fall," actress and singer Nadiaj Bosson-Dian posted on Instagram.
She supported the woman who accused Abitan of rape and called her brave.
The group will "come back stronger to fight sexual violence together," she added.
Actress Rashida Brakni also supported the group.
"Feminists are never stupid, y...u," stand-up comedian Marin Leonardi wrote on Instagram.
Macron attended Abitano's performance with her daughter.
