"It's a wonderful feeling," famous Hollywood actor Jim Carrey told reporters in Paris at the end of February, holding the honorary César Award for Lifetime Achievement in his hands.
"It was quite a challenge to give a speech in French – I wrote it, practiced like crazy, then watched the others speak at 300 an hour and thought... I'm ready myself. "
He made mistakes and, as he says, was like a beginner, but he pushed through the speech to the end and felt "a lot of love and gratitude for even trying," describing it all as a "wonderful evening."
He probably had no idea that this speech and this address to the media would cause an internet avalanche due to a rather unusual question: "Is Jim Carrey really Jim Carrey?"
"Sorry, but there is exactly zero chance that this is really him," was posted on an X account with tens of thousands of followers.

Meanwhile, a drag artist, known for his realistic impersonations and dressing up as celebrities, has spoken out, saying that he was Jim Carrey on February 26th.
He also posted photos of the alleged mask he was using.
The matter got so out of control that the César Award organization, the French equivalent of the American Oscars, had to make a statement, as did Kerry's official representatives - and they are denying everything.
"Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards, where he was presented with an honorary Cesar Award," Carrey's representatives briefly stated. TMZ.
Gregory Coulier, general director of the Cesar Awards, called the famous actor's appearance in Paris a "historic moment", planned since the summer, after several months of "continuous and constructive discussions".
He stressed that the rumors about Kerry were "not a topic" and instead talked about his months-long commitment to deliver the entire speech in French.
"He was extremely moved from the beginning, asking me about the correct pronunciation of certain words," Coulier told To cheat.
Carrey was in Paris with his partner, daughter, granddaughter, 12 close friends and family members, as well as longtime publicist Michel Gondry, he added.

The speculation and internet discussions, of course, have not stopped.
Along with the theory of a clone, a double, and an impersonator, there are also frequent theses that it is just about Kerry's plastic surgery, his body's reaction to some health problem, and even the possibility that it is some kind of performance.

The honorary award for lifetime achievement and the rich career of the famous actor, one of the most recognizable comedians of his time and winner of two Golden Globes, seems to be passing under the radar in the meantime.
Before the Cesar Awards, Carey last appeared in public in November 2025, when the band Soundgarden was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, writes Pipl.
He previously stated in 2022 that he was "pretty serious" about retiring.
"I really love my quiet, spiritual life and putting paint on canvas," Carey, who loves to paint, said at the time.
"I feel that, and this is something you may never hear from another celebrity, as long as time exists, I have enough - I have done enough, I am enough."
He will return from unofficial retirement if "the angels bring him a script written in golden ink, meaningful to the people who will watch it," he pointed out.
