During the eight years of his reign, Aleksandar Vučić managed to turn the political life of Serbia back eight decades. Everything is reminiscent of 1945, when Broz drove the opposition into a boycott in destroyed Belgrade, listed "enemies of the people" and formed a one-party assembly.
Then came the forced redemption, property seizure and the "hot rabbit" on Goli Otok. In the one-party, communist assembly, no one dared to criticize such actions. Those who spoke at local gatherings or in taverns were taken into the dark and beaten to unconsciousness.
From the first day of his rule, Vučić and his progressives grind the opposition, divide it, satanize it, fight it... And persecute it. With such behavior, they managed to drive her out of parliament, and until the opposition returns there, Serbia will not be a normal country. Vučić and his friends can celebrate as much as they want, it's just a celebration of our misfortune.
Progressives have to be recognized for their talent to destroy everything they can get their hands on. They destroyed the unfortunate democratic opposition, but they also destroyed their own. There are no more radicals, no chedists, no "monarchists", no chankolis, no united, no free, no brooms, no one. Somehow Šapić slipped through, but who still thinks that Šapić is the opposition.
All those whom Vučić lured with the overthrown census, borrowed signatures, free billboards, "open" televisions are gone... Because he doesn't need bigger right-wingers, bigger Russophiles, bigger democrats, or Europeans than him.
Imagine a parliament in which the progressives and their front group, the socialists, sit. May the people of Šapić and the minority MPs forgive me, but they won't ask anything about it. Imagine how their mouths water when they know that the state budget will be spent without any control. And so far they were arguing, but some voice of reason could be heard. Yesterday's elections brought Serbia where Vučić has been chasing for years, into the unlimited rule of one man. Some will call it a dark province, some a dictatorship or an authoritarian regime, for some it will be a pre-party society... and everyone will be right. Because what we have found ourselves in has many forms. Our fate is in the hands of people who have no brakes, it's just a question of which cliff they're running on and who's in their way. I don't want to go back to the nineties and the bombings, inflation, liquidations, but progressives and socialists participated in that too.
Our lives will be in the hands of the people who demolished in Savamala, burned the houses of journalists, looted Krušik, built on Pančićev vrh... Of course they don't sit in the Assembly, but Lav Pajkić will sit there, and he is unable to oppose the madness.
How is it possible that we as a nation have found ourselves in this situation and that at least a third of us are celebrating yesterday. It's as if we have become some kind of world power. Well, easy, because we are poor, corrupt and politically illiterate. The poor - no need to explain, the corrupt - because we only look at our own small profit, the politically illiterate - we sleep from election to election.
In order for us to come to our senses, only two conditions are needed - free media and an independent prosecutor's office, but in 1945 there were none.
