It will never be clear to me why the story of the plane hijacking between Titograd and Belgrade was not told in a better way. It happened on September 21, 1981, and until now no one has even made a documentary about that very interesting event. Imagine a hijacked plane in Titograd! It's a crazy story at the start. Forty years have passed, even if one of the directors thinks to look back on this topic. The story wrote itself well.
If you take into account that the passengers on the plane were mostly athletes and actors, one folk hero and a rock singer, the audience has already been hooked. About twenty football players from FC Budućnost went to the match with FC Vojvodina. The actors on the plane were Žarko Laušević, Marko Nikolić and Miša Janketić.
The hijackers targeted Titograd airport because the security was allegedly not very good. Many will remember that, almost until the renovation of the airport, relatives could escort passengers to the door of the plane. Right up to the door, because they also climbed up the stairs leading to the plane.
There was pushing and hugging, stuffing money in pockets, passing bags and suitcases, but also characters who slowly drove their cars to the fuselage of the plane so as not to be late for the flight. Of course, the hijackers realized that Titograd airport was an ideal point to bring weapons onto the plane, also due to the fact that many people accompanying friends and relatives onto the plane were also armed.
It is also interesting that the football players of FK Budućnost played a heroic match on the plane. Žarko Vukčević, the striker of FK Budućnost, is responsible for opening the doors and evacuating the passengers, and the world media after the hijacking of the plane wrote: "Hijackers, don't kidnap the Yugoslavs, they will kidnap you."
It is not necessary to spoil the story to the end, whoever is interested can easily find the names of the kidnappers, their reasons, logistics and how they ended up on the Internet. In the book "Hijackings and Accidents of Yugoslav Planes" there are names of all the passengers and all the details of the hijacking. Who is really interested in a good story, let him find some of the passengers from the plane, they must be walking around Podgorica, and a first-hand story is the best story.
Therefore, it is fair that the international symbols of the airport in Podgorica are still TGD. It has long since ceased to have anything to do with Tito, it is now an ordinary code that brings smiles to a certain and ever smaller group of people who move there.
It would be nice to film this dangerous and comical story. It is enough to find the passengers from the plane, give them the opportunity to appear on the airport runway and remember everything. It is a must to shoot during the golden hour, when the stretch between Ćemovsko polje and Golubovac looks the most beautiful in the world.
