Dug Đukanović has come a long way, and he still doesn't understand how facts come first. Time flies, only the head of DPS does not change. As if back in the 80s, when as a "young boy" SKJ, even after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he strongly opposed the idea of multipartyism! The Socialist Alliance of Working People was a sufficient framework for him to express his political diversity. Three decades later, the DPS leader perceives political competition and democratic values in a similar way. The opposition is a necessary evil and as such is anti-state and conspiratorial. On the other hand, independent and credible media is a black crow that brings only negative and bad news. About how apples are apples, not bananas. But it won't be long, says Đukanović, because digital is swallowing print, circulations are falling and then the market, which has always been the law for him and for everyone, will clean up those "negative media". And to complete the work that he failed to do in the last three terms, although he tried very hard.
It is tragicomic on the one hand, and deeply worrying on the other, that the head of the strongest political party perceives the position and role of the media in this way. And only those who do not give up on the principle that the facts are inviolable and that apples cannot be presented as bananas. While European leaders, the heads of national governments, have been fighting for years, and some are even at war, with Google and Facebook, with cheap and commercial TV content, in order to save space for serious media, primarily printed media, because they are under the greatest attack - our Gospodar, through obedient regulators, turned the media environment and the market into a big reality in order to make the survival of any credible newspaper impossible or meaningless. That's why it is not clear to him how Vijesti, which is the leader in spreading "negative" information, is still alive, and the whole apparatus and force was against them. While all those years, the Government of Finland, for example, annually allocates 400 million euros of support from the state budget for relief and support for the independent press so that it can survive the new era of digitization and globalization. And how the software from Silicon Valley, through FB and Google, would not profile their new generations. "The survival of the national media is a question of the survival of our identity", announced the European Association of Newspaper Publishers.
But it's easy for Finns. They don't have Pink or Dnevne novine. They don't have Statis or Beli Džafić. They don't even have Radmila and Đaga. They don't even have Trump. Therefore, they do not have an irresponsible political elite that sees public work as engagement in favor of private and not general interest. It's not a problem that Đukanović doesn't like opera, but rather turbo folk or old-town opera, that he's never heard of Bach's "Matthew Passion" or Wagner's "Valkyrie", and knows by heart "Sitnije, cile, tisnije" or "My heart burns with desire"... It's all human. But as the political leader of this country for three decades, he represents a much greater danger than "Sinđa's" DF because he imposes his system of values, which is clearly anti-European, as a social model and pattern of behavior. In which the central place is occupied by money, which controls everything - institutions, parties, propaganda... There is no more money in negative media, so there is no enrichment of the owners, says the leader of the country that is a member of NATO. And at the door of the EU. Imagine Merkel or Macron saying something like this. No one would even understand them.
Just as few understood Đukanović that evening. On the one hand, we listen to a cynical multi-millionaire who amassed an enormous fortune by working his entire life in the public service for an average salary of less than 800 euros, gossiping about supposedly rich publishers of "negative media". On the other hand, once again the wide audience is convinced that the head of the DPS is far from the imagined status of "father of the nation", because he himself admits that money is the most important thing for him and that everything he did in his long career was for private, not public interest. And the big dates to which the evening on Prva is dedicated. And the victory over Momira in '97, and the alliance with NATO in '99, and Solania in 2002, and the referendum in 2006, and NATO in 2017 - the head of the DPS unconsciously confirms that he fought all the battles for money. And that's why he is only afraid of him. So it appears to him even where he is not there. Unable to understand that something else is needed for true values and institutions to last longer than one's power and money. Integrity and values, for example.
I don't know if Ambassadors Uehara and Orav watched this speech by their government's long-time partner?! And do they now understand where the campaign on Pink and against them came from. Because the US and EU embassies in Montenegro spread "negative" information (or tweets) about the importance of media freedom and investigative journalism. An even more important question is whether the policymakers in Brussels and Washington are worried that there is even a 49 percent chance that their long-term regional partner will return to the head of state for the eighth or ninth time! That's how, at least in the mentioned address to the nation, he assessed the chances of running in the next presidential elections. Which is not available in Kyrgyzstan or Uzbekistan. Not even in Belarus. That is why it is to be expected that Uehara and Orav, that is, their governments, will reject the DPS head's persuasion that apples are not apples but bananas. Even when, as CNN says, BANANA is capitalized. An apple remains an apple. Because facts come first. And the facts, such as the last appearance of the head of the DPS on the "positive" Prva, say that Đukanović is an outclassed politician. With that phrase, everything started 20 years ago. When the Baby is already making us remember.
