A historical moment, one might say. Whatever kind of president Milatović is, this picture will remain important.
The way in which Jakov Milatović entered the presidential building, surrounded by guards and military commands, is not without some ancient charm, which brings goosebumps or tears of joy to some. Flags, toques and overcoats, masculine force in honor, the flash of bayonets, all arranged to push the mind towards some affectation called masculine. This means that the country is determined, ready, strong, it means that we are ready for anything to reach our goal. In the end, it is the masculinum of a political circus that many nations have come to terms with.
However, this time, citizens of Montenegro could see the newspaper, a political symbol of the president's surrender and emotions to his wife Milena, in a live broadcast. We watched everything, but we didn't, that two people in political roles of the first rank kiss smilingly in front of our eyes.
First, Jakov Milatović kissed his wife after the inaugural speech, and then, after passing the guard barricade, before entering the presidency building, on the steps of which she was waiting for him smiling. Just at that moment, RTCG announced a formal reception in the villa "Gorica", which Milatović will organize "with his wife".
It is noticeable that Milatović wants to symbolically link the presidential authority, which according to the Constitution of Montenegro serves more as a kind of political decoration, to the authority of, say, the president of the United States of America. And an important part of that American institute is the first lady, as a gender compromise and star of the female part of society that is waiting for its first president. This discreet homage to the American experience could be the political pragma that accompanies this ceremonial novel by Milatović. But not to measure everything and always through the infernal magnifying glass of political PR - it is enough to see that smile on the face of the first lady, and it is clear that we are witnessing something important; to remember the campaign in which she played a powerful role and to realize that a generational shift has simply taken place that has brought a new sensibility.
It seems that Montenegro got a statesman who will model something much more important than laws and proclamations, which is the way a man should behave towards his love, or a husband towards his wife. Unfortunately, we could not see that school until now, because politics was held as a militarized activity of stubborn males ready for anything but a moment of public tenderness.
It must have been from those centers of past power that a malignant internet campaign about Milatović as an alleged family abuser started, which of course was immediately forgotten after the end of the pre-election atrocity. That is why this relationship between Milena and Jakov Milatović, without idealizing it, is very important as a political picture, as an undoubted gesture of appreciation of women and their role in Montenegrin society. So, not in the house, not in the bed, not in the store, but on the red carpet, in the middle of the male charade with long pipes and flags.
A historical moment, one might say. Whatever kind of president Milatović is, this picture will remain important.
