Whoever does not remember what happened before his birth is condemned to die as a child". Brskut is a local community that has been forgotten for decades and is not managed by anyone. Brskut has been without a work and development program for too long. The Citizens' Assembly of Brskut has not met for three or more decades. The flight of people from their homeland is the only visible "developmental" event. The exception is the church, which seriously returned to its work.
Brskut is a village, close to Podgorica and with the possibility of being reached in 30-40 minutes by the new highway and one day becoming a rich suburb (village) of the capital and beyond. Brskut is a village with a rich past and a hazy future. A village that had its own great people who made a major contribution to the Montenegrin and Yugoslav historical past.
Many believe that Brskut with Veruša is the left and right lung of the capital. A village to which nature gave everything, but people turned their backs on that wealth. Brskut is a rare local area that has had no one to manage it for decades? In the post-war period, Brskut was a municipality of close to 2.000 inhabitants and 300 households, which received and supported a war division that fought against the fascist occupier. Those glorious and difficult days are evidenced by the magnificent monument in the center of Brskut, on which are carved the names of 241 people from Brskut who died for the freedom of the country in the earlier and Second World War.
Today, when a native comes to his area, he can hardly meet a neighbor and a friend with whom he would drink coffee and the famous Brskut plum?
Nature gave Brskut all the wealth of this world. The fertile land of Brskuta can produce everything from southern to continental products (600 to 900 m/nm). The once rich fields are now overgrown with weeds and bushes, meadows, pastures and forest, spring water and above all the beautiful mountain hinterland of Mokra and Komovo at your fingertips, with Bukumir and Rikavački lakes - mountain eyes, without whose values in a long time ago, there was no of life, today they are a green legacy without economy, life and guardians
On the beautiful mountain surface from Mokra to Komovo, life used to last for a full six months, and the rest of the days went down to the tame Brskut valley. Even in the most difficult days, there was never hunger in Brskut, and its products enriched the Podgorica market and the surrounding towns. Today, Brskut is something else entirely, neither his natives, nor the municipality, nor the state are after him.
At the end of the last century - for a full eight years in Brskut there was and successfully worked the cultural and literary manifestation "Trifun and Lola Đukić", known in the Montenegrin area, which was the only one in that difficult time that could gather people from Montenegro and Yugoslavia, and regardless of ideological and political beliefs. The event, which lasted for three days (Podgrica, Brskut, Veruša), was visited and participated in by five academics and a dozen university professors. intellectuals and citizens of all professions who lived and breathed in one spirit in those days. The House of Culture was reconstructed and modernly equipped, which could not be faulted if it were located in a larger city, and significant works were carried out in the field of rural infrastructure.
Not long after, some "revolutionaries" of various factions found all of this suspicious, and they set out to first overthrow the government in Brskut and then to destroy everything that the aforementioned manifestation of culture had achieved in many years of work. So for years, nothing happens in Brskut, except for occasional visits from the natives, who often do not know why they came to the native land and quickly escape to where they came from.
With the construction of the highway Smokovac - Mateševo, Brskut got much closer to Podgorica. Instead of the former hour and a half or two, you can now get to Brskut in 35-40 minutes on the winding road from Bratnoška, which would be shortened to 2,5 minutes.
A road is being built for Veruša, which will connect this beautiful tourist spot with the highway and the capital. As for the road - the 2,5-kilometer turn from the highway to Nožica, which travelers now have a hard time getting to Lijeva Rijeka Jablana and Brskut, nobody knows what will happen to it? Without this short road and the reconstruction of the road from Nožica to Brskut (8 km), there is a nagging hope that this beautiful and naturally rich village will open up to the capital and the wider environment.
It would be very good if the competent services of the capital address the current circumstances (adversities) in Brskut, and with the people from this region, find ways that would lead Brskut to the new suburban settlement of Podgorica - a climatic spa for scorching Podgorica summer days, and enthrone the management Brskuta in accordance with the applicable laws. This would bring Brskut out of years of deadness and decay and begin the implementation of a new green economy and tourism development program (for which it has good experience in the past). One thing is certain, Brskut needs Podgorica, and Brskut cannot hope for a better future without Podgorica.
