The Call of the Defeated Homeland (II)

I have no doubts that Brskut, with its past and opportunities in the area of development, has extraordinary conditions, to become a green and touristic oasis important not only for Podgorica, but also more widely - for Montenegro

For some people, the story of a defeated homeland (Vijesti od 17.08.23) is a joke, which lives for one day, and then everything continues as before. In contrast to the previous fact, the question is, is it time to look in the mirror and say - it can't be like this anymore! I believe that this moment is a great need and the future of Brskut and Montenegro in "unity in diversity", and then things will start to change for the better. Unfortunately, we are waiting too long for something like that to happen!

The Bar-Boljare highway, the Smokovac-Mateševo section (42 km), was not built to drive faster and more comfortably and to collect tolls from highway users, but to directly influence the development of gravitating areas and thus Montenegro and beyond.

My earlier review of this topic was not intended to accuse or provoke anyone by asking why Brskut, as a rare cultural, natural and historical settlement, close to Podgorica, is experiencing its hellish moment.

Looking for a way out for Brskut from the current unenviable situation, I highlighted the construction and opening of the Smokovac-Mateševo highway section as a great chance not only for the development of Brskut, but as a challenge for faster progress and development of Montenegro and the wider environment.

It would be pretentious on my part to lament on this topic from a broader macroeconomic aspect, that's why I decided to analyze the decade-long deterioration of Brskut, given that I am familiar with Brskut's circumstances and difficulties, native and admirer of this beautiful village.

I have no doubts that Brskut, with its past and opportunities in the area of development, has extraordinary conditions, to become a green and touristic oasis important not only for Podgorica, but also for Montenegro.

Why little or nothing of what was desired has been done so far is not for me to talk about at this time. The deterioration of the Montenegrin countryside has been going on for a long time, and the list of those who calmly watched the deterioration is extensive, so in that context, I look at the situation in Brskut.

Also, I have no doubts that in the transitional period in Brskut, there is bad management of this local area. Why are those who are advocating that we look in the mirror trying to smear and deny ourselves now?

All my life I have advocated that the development of Brskut rests on the principle "unity in diversity". In addition to the above, it is vitally important to find sustainable solutions, which will be based on the memory of previous generations and their indelible work, and respect for the interests of current and future generations. Brskut should be alien to any kind of nationalist exaggeration with pretensions that one nationality holds primacy over others. Everyone who wants to live there or visit it should feel free and comfortable in Brskut.

Brskut has always had its own traditional culture of living, which it nurtured both in the village and on the mountain katun, and the hospitality of its inhabitants was widely known. I think that even today we should stick to some of the traditional values that he perpetuated Milovan Janičin Dedić Vujosevic from Brskut, who, when asked how he could beat every guy on the field, said: We fight slowly, he gets angry at me and says all sorts of things to me, and I keep silent. The next day, when we meet in some small alley, he bowed his head wet, and I straightened my forehead where I had intended. Duke of Kuča Marko Mijanov Popović based on the wisdom of Milovan Janičin Dedić created a timeless literary work "Examples of courage and heroism" whose ethical values have not been surpassed since Aristotle until today. Well, that's our altar, a landmark for a lifetime!

But should we return to the present life despite the fact that the past of our bright ancestors has taught us little?

Thus, a few days ago, the statement of the former Minister for Spatial Planning and Ecology surfaced on the Vijesti portal, that the turnout from the highway from Krkor to Nožica (2,5 km?) was a design failure, and that it will not be built as such. In contrast to this statement of the former minister, there is also a recent statement of the representative of the Road Administration under the Government of Montenegro, that the mentioned turnout is in the design phase and that the fate of its construction is in the hands of the capital city.

Be that as it may, the temporary switch in question now functions very difficult, a winding path or a narrow country road with many curves and dangerous for public traffic and almost unusable in times of rain and snow.

It would be extremely fair to the citizens of Lijeva Rijeka, Jablan, Nožica and Brskut and beyond for the authorities to announce what is the truth here?

In an earlier and more relaxed time, the army of the former Yugoslavia, and later the Army of Montenegro, broke through the road between Stravče (Potrk) and Brskut (8.0 km). Now that road is neglected and difficult to pass for trucks and off-road vehicles, not to mention passengers. At the beginning of its construction, the plan was to establish a regional suburban bus line on the route Podgorica-Ubli-Stravče-Brskut, with a return to Podgorica via Lijeva Rijeka and Bratonožić, and vice versa. Of course, no one ever questioned the asphalting of this road and the reconstruction of the Brskut-Nožica road. There were many promises from the level of the municipality of Podgorica and the Government of Montenegro, but everything remained a dead letter! Circumstances have changed with the construction of the highway, and people are confused?!

I hope it is not controversial to remind you that the development plans of Brskut and the mentioned areas largely depend on what will be their future fate in terms of traffic infrastructure?

And as important, when the functional management of Brskut is established, the question arises as to which structures (organs) of the capital and the state will be competent interlocutors with the administration of Brskut regarding the implementation of projects that this region and beyond are crying out for?

Any transfer of these questions to the field of politics and its decades-long events would be counterproductive.

Dear Mrs. Mayor of Podgorica, it would be very good if you could use your authority to influence the issues in question and to initiate some activities that, in synergy with the citizens of Brskut and the capital, will open a difficult path towards a new beginning of the development of Brskut and the wider region. environment, which I believe is also in the interest of the city you manage.
