At the end of the XNUMXs, Belgrade-based writer and painter Mileta Prodanović used this expression in the regional public for the first time, precisely describing the toxic influence of Milošević's television and selected newspapers on the overall mood in Serbia.
In the meantime, television on a global level has ceded most of its power to social networks, so we all waited together for the phrase to be filled with intensity and social roots that it has never had in history.
The whole world is animalized, people are divided over two wars that are anyway created from an incalculable amount of beastly elements. An extremely low level of political culture and general education dominates most political discussions and online arguments. Insults, threats and an extremely poor level of argumentation alternate with a rhythm that slowly but surely destroys the fabric of society.
Beasts in nets
No one can convince anyone of anything. The ideological trenches were dug a long time ago, the war of opinions continues parallel to the destruction of Palestine. It is difficult to accept this as a permanent balance of power, but even a cursory insight into the ongoing discussions shows that a respectable percentage of the population, not to mention humanity, is extremely militant. It doesn't matter what they write about, but there is always some righteous anger, some screaming, some fight for justice and a better tomorrow. Such amounts of insults and militant spirit say that here we are, in fact, dealing with serious ensigns, senior sergeants first class, with majors or, it is hard to believe, even with good-natured generals. The primary mission is to shake off anger, to numb someone, so that there is little space left for a true understanding of phenomena and processes.
Calm, sensible, gentle people are definitely in the minority. The only consolation is hidden in the fact that at one time the corona completely killed the altruism of the enthusiasts who warned us in Messenger about Fabrizio Brambilla and other hackers who are working on our heads day and night. Every evil for some good.
This is not even a question of media literacy anymore, but of some ubiquitous personal fanaticism. BiH was divided into party camps. the intellectual scene is so programmed to produce conflicts and defeats, not ideas and paths. And we are not alone in this, it's just that it burns more under our feet than others.
People should be educated from the beginning. It is particularly worrisome that politics manipulates social networks to achieve their own goals and, in the process, unknowingly, slowly takes over their main tools. One of the biggest flaws in our political scene is the inability to see patterns. And that should be their main job. Once the mechanisms of behavior on the public scene are broken down, finding the right model of action and reaction is routine work, a task for advisers and cabinet members.
And the main pattern would be - no harsh words, no emotions, no angry reactions and fruitless anger. Anger in politics is always and only a reflection of impotence. It is not a XNUMX% rule, but it registers a mass presence: the vulgar behavior of politicians leads to a loss of relevance, reputation and power, which is a direct path to isolation. In this sense, the case of Milorad Dodik is interesting - could that brutal style of many years have ended differently than the way it is ending now - repeatedly sanctioned, lonely although surrounded by a retinue of interested allies, fear and trepidation for the environment, many are afraid of him, no one loves And everyone can't wait for him to leave, both opponents and collaborators. Another defeat of verification as a consciously chosen method.
A semblance of democracy
Democracy was not built here in order to develop a society of freedom and well-being, but the pauperized population was adapted to the needs of tri-ethnic nationalism through decades of persecution. A set of political decisions was consciously chosen and built, which systematically distanced Bosnia and Herzegovina from civic values. Worse, there is no consensus on what those values are anyway. When one day in the distant future someone decides to change the state of the nation, they will have to start by rehabilitating the classic patterns of freedom and democracy, decency and civilized dialogue.
What will be the basis of that process? Education, and not everyone, but the one that brings respect for the other and appreciation of the different, and the first stage is mutual communication. Social networks are not exactly a training ground where people committed to such relationships appear. It's not that they aren't there, but they are present at the drop of a hat. The keys to relaxing the atmosphere as a basis for building new relations are in the hands of the authorities.
