Locating filth

Politicians do not have to be, and usually are not, people of the highest moral qualities. But they mustn't really be scoundrels either, because where scoundrels rule, there can be nothing but ruin and misfortune

Sometimes only one word, short and simple, understandable to everyone, is needed and sufficient to explain some events or some people. The word is sometimes searched for a long time, in the meantime you experiment with other words, which can also be good, but none of them quite fit, each of them lacks something or has too much of something, like a dish made of great ingredients that ends up being either a little bland or too spicy.

Who and what are these people who have invaded this country, so they don't know enough, they don't know shame, they don't know measure even in immoderation and dishonor? Whatever they are called, and there is nothing wrong with that, but complete accuracy in defining such psychological and character structures is not achieved until things are reduced to the simplest form, because it is the only one according to them. They are not, you know, particularly complex organisms. They're just sticky and poisonous.

The non-existent "case of Đorđe Miketić" brings us closer to the word we are looking for, because you don't need to be an expert on political trends and processes in order to know and understand without a trace what kind of human beings dig through other people's intimates with the intention of using them for some of their own ( huh, as if they could be lofty?) goals. Such people are scoundrels. And there are many other things, nothing above the symbolic level of reptiles and rodents, but above all they are scoundrels.

We knew too well their hooligan oeuvre from the end of the last century, we knew that nothing was too low for them and that they were not ashamed of anything - not even, say, publicly waving the private trinkets of the family they had previously kicked out of the apartment - and yet, at the very least, we allowed them to sit on our necks again, as if they had turned from caterpillars into butterflies. Which happens in nature, but in society, well, no. A person can, at least to some extent, change his beliefs, but he cannot excrete profanity from himself, it is simply the way such a being reacts to challenges, and there is no help for that.

Now, there are signed and unsigned scams, except that the unsigned ones are not and cannot be truly anonymous, because we all know where they come from anyway. And they know we know, it's an obscene pleasure of a special kind, part of their pathological game.

In our mailboxes, for example, leaflets, lavishly printed, by modest "unknown" authors, who talk in a recognizably hooligan way about some people who will dare to oppose them in the elections, have been inserted. And there is everything there, but the pearl is still a leaflet about a well-known opposition politician from a smaller town; "pig" was added to his name and surname, which I guess should be insulting again in that sly and reclusively hooligan way, and then follows a barrage of insults and slanders, including "traitor", "NATO mercenary" and the like , and the claim that during the bombing in 1999 he "placed locators" did not help the aggressor aviation to bomb us as efficiently as possible.

Younger people do not remember and may not understand what it is about. "Locator" is a mysterious device of unknown shape that the local hooligan propaganda put in the hands of anyone who did not like it. If someone criticized the criminal structure in power, he would be honored with a "locator", and the consumers of propaganda were left free to imagine him walking around the forests and mountains of our proud country with that diabolical device and informing the villainous pilots where to strike.

It was, it seemed to us, a pathology of a time, but almost a quarter of a century later, after the resurrection of so many other forgotten diseases and vices, here the "locators" were also resurrected, and that, it seems, was inevitable. Scoundrels have no scruples or boundaries, but they don't really have much imagination either, so sooner or later their repertoire starts to endlessly spin in circles, to hiccups like a scratched gramophone record.

Politicians do not have to be, and usually are not, people of the highest moral qualities. But they mustn't really be scoundrels either, because where scoundrels rule, there can be nothing but ruin and misfortune. We knew it, then we forgot, and now we know it again. I guess that was enough?
