In an inspired speech that made the blood of a hero hit his forehead, one of the main figures of the DPS said on the verge of tears that for him family and country are the greatest sanctities. One would think that knowledge or a good time is more important to a professor and a bachelor, but he decided that it should be his family and the country, so let him have it. However, since his name is Dr. Ivan Vuković and his vision is to remain on the political scene as long as there is a damara in it, this pathetic tribune of outdated national demagoguery must be subjected to analysis.
With his speech, more than his election to the position of vice president of the party, Vuković touched lyrically on the momentum in which that party is, so I take him here as a symbol, and put him in front of the newly elected leader Danijel Živković. The elections have passed and it is clear that the two will lead the way in what is presented to us as a reformed DPS. Some might have expected that in the finale of this party revue some kind of new program would be glimpsed, instead we got Vuković's ensign tics and a dubious intoxication with big words such as state, decency, honor, family, i.e. all right-wing proclamations of some kind of ideal society with ossified hierarchies .
The serious screw up is that DPS no longer has the power to control that society, so there had to be a change in the algorithm. It was necessary to somehow lower that patriotic kitsch that put them in a position to live this lonely reality of a new puberty after Đukanović's departure. And puberty, as you know, means pounding the chest, mutating the voice, tears and wailing, increased gesticulation, all that we saw with Dr. Vuković, who never once mentioned education, social policies, or any modern social concept, economic slogan... Nothing that a socialist in full force should probably recommend to his party comrades.
Vuković decided to swear an oath to the state and the family, which is a kind of degenerate political narrative that lives in election delays and on posters washed away by the first rain. While the reality unfolds in the political micromanagement of the new ideological and informational reality, and the states of modern leadership are somehow catching up with the mindless rhythm of social changes of late capitalism, this socialist would shout at the partisans, to hold a rally on the edge, and repeat the words of Milo Đukanović that he will defend Montenegro at least from the forest.
Immersed in party camomile as a boy, and determined to build his career at a captive university, formatted for the leader of a bygone era, Vuković irrationally fantasizes about the forest. Masked as much as his yuppie uniform allows, our hero wants to fight the Chetniks. And someone will say, indeed, Montenegro is heavily oppressed by the Great Serbian fury and must defend itself. The one who says that clero-nationalism is a dangerous opponent is not wrong, but it should also be said that the forest approach to politics, the denial of life and social experience, the burying of all positions in the glib transition led to the fetish of the state, which is waved by those who sold it.
The point is actually close, just a little bit of political savvy, which Vuković doesn't seem to have, and social topics based on the left-wing postulates of political activity in Montenegro would bring political growth. But with national patriotism, stubborn lies about the forest that not even the last old man in the gallery believes, shameless hidden appeals of strength within the caste of mediocre and overpaid males, you can't move anyone anymore. Password family and country it may be valid among the fans, it works in the stadiums, and among the clean-shaven youth, but there the church has already invaded with its magic and heraldry as a terrible sign of competition. The state and the family certainly cannot be the political credo of the left party, which does not seem to be studied at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica.
Why am I writing this? Precisely because the clero-nationalists are largely incorrigible and it is futile to write about them. They even grow stronger if they are casually attacked and belittled with haughty cynicism. The real struggle of the left, which DPS apparently only wants to pretend, should actually be the design of contemporary policies, persistent renunciation and submissive attitude towards the dignity of the individual, not the state. If you want to separate young men from pernicious tribal nationalism, you have to offer them the positive value of personality and the organization of political society, not counter sermons and old fetishes. As long as we have a political science professor who performs at the same level as Vuković, we can say that we are in serious trouble. Politics becomes a lower level stage, so instead stand up comedies by one Milan Knežević, we get stand up the tragedy of Ivan Vuković. However, our problems go much deeper than this genre division.
Whatever it will be in the future, DPS must get rid of that false tone that saves the nation and the state framework, because such a story cleaned them out of power. I took Vuković as the loudest example: even though he was not elected as party president, his leadership movements are cruelly precise in his intention to continue doing damage at the highest level. First of all, his empty patriotism that no one asked him about, his feigned macho intonations that no one believes and the long-read bagatelle of a party emotion that must disappear.
DPS has a future only if it politically distances itself from Milo Đukanović's legacy. It would be ideal if they help in the prosecution and criminal evaluation of Djukanović's rule. But that is hard to expect when you hear Dr. Vuković touchingly worshiping the former leader - and he still does it in the format of a picture book and war pastoral - as a supreme being in which the highest political values, family and state are acquired.
