Patriotism is the key word in the heated campaign of the ruling party, on the eve of the Belgrade elections, which have not yet been announced, and will be held, by the will of the president, whose job it is not, on June 2. What follows is, therefore, a new turning of the dice of reason and the thorough paving of Serbia and Belgrade with a modern version of the "nobody can beat you" policy. Because, it turned out, nationalism is still the most powerful fuel of Serbian politics. And as soon as he starts beating the tribe's drum, the entire parish immediately gathers.
And so, instead of the government's and the opposition's spears crossing over the city's most important issues in the campaign for the Belgrade elections, there is every chance that the SNS will try to push the capital's problems far from the terrain of reality and entangle us in the old issues of proving who is a greater patriot and who is not. is a traitor, who fights for the country and the people and who is an outpost of foreign services and interests. Who thinks of city transport or potholes on the roads, when "they want to abolish our state and take away our land", as the President of Serbia recently said, showing that the agenda of the Belgrade elections is firmly fixed - homogenization in the face of an external and internal enemy. Immediately, SNS officials scattered around the bazaar to tell the voters that by seizing power in the capital, Kosovo was in fact being defended. And the candidate for mayor of the ruling party, Aleksandar Šapić, clarified that these are not just some prosaic issues of communal issues and communal infrastructure, but that the survival of the state is at stake. Either SNS will conquer Belgrade or the world will fall. And Serbia.
That is why the future Belgrade elections have been moved in advance from what is their legal description to a war scene where the hawks and stormtroopers of the government will once again freeze Serbia in 1389, and then fight the battle with imaginary anti-Serbs and traitors of their kind. They believe that on that angry day, on the Belgrade asphalt, they can get the support of the citizens of the capital. Especially since, apart from the Constitution and the law, the monumental figure of the president of the state will rise above this whole operation, who, as he says for himself, is the only one who cares about the state and the people, is the only person capable of opposing the powers of the West and the only one who can be a barrier to the subjugation of Serbia .
The irony is that the government chose the defense of Kosovo as a metaphor for its success. And that at the moment when Kosovo is practically completing its statehood, probably counting on the fact that there is no such defeat that it still cannot present as a victory or attribute it to others.
But, nevertheless, of all the consequences of pragmatic calculations that this political group uses abundantly as an instrument to win elections, one seems to me to be the most destructive to society. For years, the progressive government has been turning Serbia into a sad land of dissatisfied citizens. They assure them that nobody wants them, that Europe doesn't want them and is only deceiving them, that nobody loves them, that everyone is, in fact, against them, that everyone wants to destroy them, that they are viewed as hostile from the region, that they are trying to take away their land, to abolish their state, that in fact many people hate Serbia, but love and support Kosovo... For that "sad sorghum with no one anywhere" there is, therefore, only one straw of salvation that they should hold on to - that is President Aleksandar Vučić. It is too high a price to win the elections. But the government easily pays for it because it knows that without citizens killed in the concept, without invented conflicts and enormous manufactured hatred, they in fact have no chance.
