I was pleasantly surprised by the president this week in Cetinje (at mah) at the STEGA academic session. At first I thought "what would he do" if he is honest or if he positions himself as a middle player on the Montenegrin political stage, before founding his own political party. The president objected "to any revisionism when it comes to the Second World War". Very nice of him. Only, when the president says "every revisionism", he owes us the less informed to specifically say who the revisionists of history are, who he means, what they are trying to revise and why. President, please be specific. Are they the dark forces on the other side of the Atlantic, or enemies from the EU who have been holding the carrot on a long stick for 20 years. Or are they the brothers next door, "two eyes in one head"? Mr. President, of all the citizens of Montenegro, tell us clearly and loudly that we all understand you, because then it will be easier for us to help you to wholeheartedly fight against all revisionists.
14 months ago, the young president opened a political game of chess with the king's gambit... Well-informed chess players know what this opening is. For quick positioning and attack on the opponent, but with the necessary sacrifice of own forces. The president's first victim was secular Montenegro, then history, then heritage, then independent politics, then Euro-Atlantic integration... The beginner in political chess encountered a tough nut on the opposite side of the board. He encountered wise, already hardened political veterans. First he was met by pawns-light infantry, always full of them from Montenegro, to whom Montenegro is "not a mother but a stepmother", then he encountered the laufers and cavalry, spokesmen of M. Marić's "Ćirilica". Then it was mowed down by the heavy artillery of pop guns with Svetosava ammunition. Somehow he withstands all those blows and almost draws, until the game is taken over by the king of all Serbs in the world. It seemed to me that because of the president's youth and naivety in political chess, the king of all Serbs in the world offered the president a way out of checkmate... "back me the laufers and the cavalry to enter the crypto king's government and I'll give you a draw". And the young president naively accepted the offer, thinking of a draw, but before the flag fell - he got checkmate. He consoled himself afterwards, but he was not a "shuster-mate". And he would somehow have recovered from that if the crypto king of Montenegro hadn't snuffed him out in the meantime, admittedly through political manipulations, and it was really good enough for him, and removed him as an ordinary laufer from PES.
In Cetinje, the president started a new game of chess, this time a much more careful opening "Sicilian Defense"... He doesn't rush, he doesn't rush, he doesn't sacrifice anything (for now) and he positions himself well, firmly in defense. Let's hope that he is not late, although the helmet, the flag may fall. But he should be supported, if he was at all honest this time. Because the president knows - he can easily lock the house and defend it against ordinary thieves. Thieves-revisionists are much more sophisticated, I hope he learned that after the two mats he suffered. They steal history, culture, heritage, language in a perfidious, insidious way. They iron out the black hole in their own history by stealing someone else's. And what is a man without heritage, culture, language... He is not a man.
In order for the President to understand this better, I will remind him what Winston Churchill, when he was both Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in 1940, told the General Staff of the British Army when they asked for the military budget to be supplemented with funds from the budget for education and culture. Churchill told them: "Then we should not go to war against Hitler because we would have nothing to defend".
That's why I appeal to the president of all citizens of Montenegro, and I don't have to remind him of the price of Montenegrin statehood, history, culture, heritage, to roll up his sleeves and be careful which opening on the board he chooses in the next game of political chess. He will have the support of all those to whom he is really care about Montenegro.
