The farce surrounding the trial of Milorad Dodik has been going on for a year now. Fanfare, cheers, banners, and determined party cadres are being harnessed to prove the innocence and defense of the one and only, beloved governor at all costs. In this process, I don't know what's worse, the paranoia coming from the RS or the fan-like debauchery with which the media is following this trial in the other BiH entity. In other words, the conviction of Dodikists that if he is convicted, everything will fall apart, or the conviction of the federal public that with Dodik's eventual departure from the political scene, roses will bloom in the country.

In both cases, the conclusion is that we are once again dealing with an attempt to destroy what is left of this state with cheap explosions, by inflaming ethno-national tensions, in order to make the wet dreams of political actors come true and preserve this straitjacket in which they have kept us for so long. Once again, fears are being invoked, the card of disturbing the few remaining inhabitants of BiH is being played, with the desire to maintain the status quo as we have known it for thirty years, with threats and tendencies to return to the atmosphere of a state of war.

However, judging by the reaction of the ordinary world, the one that fights for its own existence every day, navigating as best it can in the vastness of expensiveness and narrowed opportunities, it is unlikely that anything spectacular will happen, whatever the final verdict. It is clear that in the global framework there are free hands for many options, and thus the various appetites for redrawing borders have grown, emboldened and encouraged all those who think that it can be done differently, that they would be better off in some other framework, to try. It is not for nothing that the Sretenje Predrina gathering is located in Banja Luka, because it is known that fires in Serbia are always extinguished by pouring gasoline on neighboring countries.

But, regardless of all that, and no matter what tensions arise in the coming period, I have the impression that we are left with the same hopelessness. With or without Dodik, there is so much in this country that is crying out to be changed and cleaned up, we have sunk so deeply into meaninglessness that it will be decades before anything moves from the deadlock. First of all, because I do not see the real strength that is ready to face the circumstances in which we live, to look at the reality of this country, its gaps and potentials, in order to finally come up with some new, different paradigm that will rise above mere ethnic primacy and the beating it over the heads of all of us.

As long as there is a possibility that an entire people is embodied in just one character, and that the trial related to that specific character represents an alleged threat to everyone, there is no illusion or hope that it is possible to change anything in this toady of ours. If we look back, we will easily see that every trial against any of the representatives of the constituent peoples was attacked as one directed against one, another or a third nation. Hence it always turns out that all the political actors here, no matter what misdeeds they have committed, are as innocent as newborns. It will therefore be that we are guilty and that we, as citizens, should be tried for this madness to which we have so wholeheartedly agreed all these years.
