Is it easy to blame the new generations? Too easy. It's more comfortable for parents that way. The most common beginning of a sentence is: "These young people today." But it's not fair to say that, because it's not entirely accurate. The "new generations" are easy to blame, but hard to understand. Not because they have their own new language, are closed off, and live much faster and differently than their predecessors. It's hard to understand them because they are left to their own devices, educated more by YouTubers than by their families.
Just as aggression is largely passed on from parents to children, so are good traits and habits. “Everything comes from home.” It's not easy to talk to children. It takes time and nerves. “Society” and “time” can't be blamed for everything.
At the good old (airport) right across from the famous, not so secret house V. on a winding street, in a former atomic shelter, Brazilian jiu-jitsu training for elementary school students was organized. One boy brought a gun to the coach's hands, because he found it at the bottom of the stairs at the entrance to the hall. Probably someone had put it down the stairs as far as possible the night before because he was in trouble because of a police search or there was some worse story. About fifteen years have passed since then.
The question is what would have happened if that boy had put a gun in his bag, if he hadn't handed it over to his coach and the coach had called the police. Maybe that story would have filled newspapers and portals, maybe a series would have been made. The child knew how to act, someone had taught him something and implanted in him a compass by which he would react when something happened to him.
But in that same good old (airport), just like in Zagorič, Tološi, Blok and Murtovina, there are many children who grew up left to their own devices. We don't have films about that growing up, but we do have articles on portals, about fights, shootings, racketeering, bullying and robberies.
While the Matrix video store was operating in Hercegovačka, it was difficult to get hold of the films: This is England, ID, Football Factory and Green Street Hooligans. These three films gave a picture of how people live in a group on the street and how things go downhill. Sport in that case was rated B. Following a similar model, difficult and sobering films closer and more familiar to us are Wounds, Metastases and Haircuts. One of the balanced and brilliant films is Tilva Roš. But the vast majority of such films are disturbing because they are realistic. They open people's eyes, just like Matju Kasovic's masterpiece “La haine” (Hate).
The continuation of these stories about adolescents continued this year through the series Adolescence on Netflix. It's unnecessary to talk about the phenomenal acting or the technique of telling a story in one take. They opened up perhaps the most important topic in the world, let's hope it's not too late.
This is a series and a story that many parents can't sleep after because they think about their children and rewind the movie. They wonder, rightly, if they are doing everything right and if they understand everything correctly. It is a sobering story that is easy to believe because it is not far from the truth about education, children and family relationships.
Some new adolescents are on the scene, and the worst thing we can do is ignore them. If they won't open up, we should at least watch a series that talks about their world. Adolescence!
