The entire essence of our long-term decline and captivity in the narratives of the 1990s, where identical models that led to the ethno-national disintegration of the country still prevail, and all the subsequent bloody unfoldings in crimes and suffering, stem from the profound inability to create forms of existence and meaning for this country outside of the familiar matrices and petrified principles of governance to which we have become accustomed.
In other words, we constantly refuse to consider our own role and inaction in everything that happens to us – and thus any reflection on what we can do to find, through dialogue, conversation and confrontation, that necessary germ that brings us together and gives meaning to our being where we are – therefore we permanently remain out of step with reality and what it offers as possible ways out. Regardless of what is happening at the current moment, regardless of geopolitical circumstances and influences, the undeniable fact remains that we ourselves, as citizens of this country, rarely think about what is the real reason and essence of its survival. We are guided by mere inertia and grouping into herds that behave the way the wolves howl around us. Which is to say, without much intelligence, tribal determination to one of the offered sides has always been more important to us than anything else. Because when reality thickens, it is warmer in the herd, no matter how disastrous and unsustainable it may be.
I am not claiming that in a world like ours, especially not in a state like this, it is entirely possible to achieve some degree of autonomy in decision-making and decision-making. For we are so small and insignificant that we are simply not given the opportunity to decide our own fate outside of planetary-level rearrangements. Yet, even with all that in mind, we lack the inner how and why.
For all of this to make any sense, it is necessary that we ourselves at least have an idea of what kind of society we actually want to exist in. If we continue to be guided by the principles of narcissism of small differences, the need to overcome the other two with one exclusive primacy, it is obvious that very soon there will be nothing left of those substitutional characteristics that Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite everything, contains within itself. Instead of turning to what is our common rallying point, for three decades we have been unable to break out of the vicious circle of smaller and larger defeats, with the strategy of persistent ignoring as the only constant.
Defeats are all we know, and generations have grown up in the constant degradation and degeneration of every value, of every thought that it is possible to build something different, that will not be based on the bizarre principles of fear and strife. We have never yet reached the necessary consensus on whether we need each other at all, what binds us and why.
I am not talking about political representatives at all, about their malfeasance and interests, they are more than clear, they are only interested in the loot and what can be cleared from the remaining resources, but above all about the people who inhabit this country and who do not want to see what the essence of the fraud is. The level of our unconsciousness, our focus on those primarily petty personal interests, without any feeling that there is some broader, universal meaning, is a direct consequence of years of mindless and alienating the masses reduced to ethnic and religious categories. However, this is not an alibi, it does not amnesty us from inaction and the deafness with which we look at everything that is happening.
As so many times before, at this moment we have agreed to be passive observers, almost objects that wriggle and move depending on the daily flow of propaganda information and spin. Although there are individual voices that clearly show that they are aware of the lies and manipulation, nothing significant is happening at the collective level yet, that is, there is no real force that will finally say enough is enough.
That we are interested in living in a society that will deal with the crucial problems of how to survive as a culture and a community in an increasingly crazy planetary carousel. Instead, we have left everything at the mercy of the party-crazy bulunments that are our voice, our action and our decisions. As if we believe that we exist for them, and not that they exist for us. Perhaps now is the last chance to pull ourselves together and withdraw, to get out of the position of eternal extras. If we once again accept the state of crisis as our only permanent category, we will condemn ourselves to a painful and precarious existence, and will surely move towards complete disappearance as a community of thinking people. Like some primitive forms of life, which are aware only of primal instincts and, beyond that, nothing else touches them.
