An unusual summer story from Podgorica: a woman gave birth in a supermarket with the assistance of a resourceful and composed supermarket employee.

In the shadow of wars that begin (or continue) day after day, in the time of dull autocrats who imagine the world according to their own standards, unable to penetrate and understand all the complexity and irreducibility of the world, in an era in which the greatest truths are so worn out and devalued that even the most unworthy mock them, in a time of deceivers and illusionists, this is the only truth that survives. And which is still able to awaken solidarity in people. An act so simply contrary to everything that is happening around. Birth.

If we look at the global political context, we could say - despite everything.

Many places were the stage for the magnificent act of birth. New people entered the world stage in taxis, in parking lots, in elevators, among ruins, in sports halls, in war refugees, at rock concerts, on airplanes, in cafes, on the street...

In this case, we have a supermarket, which further semanticizes the whole thing in an interesting way - some would say above all cynical - since the "supermarket" is the most important temple, the holy place of capitalism. This is where capitalist spirituality resides, in other words.

The mysticism and a kind of natural magic of this act has created nothing less than - religions, literature, history... Because men do not have this power over powers, but that is why they are imaginative in its mystical interpretation, a kind of symbolic "superstructure". But also in mythical disguise.

One such instructive story from history is the one about the famous “witch hunt”. Serious historiography has established that the background, in fact the active motive for the whole story about witches in the late Middle Ages, and the cruel persecution directed by the church, was actually in taking over the last bastion outside the church, read male control - midwifery. It turned out that almost all the “condemned” and burned witches were - local midwives. This is how men “sort out” things throughout history. An imaginative story that shapes politics. And politics produces victims. Hell, in other words. In some public spheres you can see that this is still a working model today.

Childbirth and birth are undoubtedly the most significant biological acts of our existence, which is why they evoke a kind of consensus among people, regardless of their beliefs and experiences. Everyone's first and natural impulse is to help.

We use childbirth (and giving birth) as a figure of speech when we talk about new phenomena, events that are clearly separated from what has been, when historical (and political) processes end and result in some "new" state, or the birth of something that did not exist until yesterday.

Fortunately, the Podgorica birth in the shop went smoothly, "labor pains" are also a relatively common metaphor. After all, they sometimes last - for decades. As in the case of Montenegro, where the birth of a normal and democratic state is expected longer than Real Madrid waited for its seventh European title.

To the unexpected guests of today's column, a mother and daughter, I wish them good health and that they enjoy their new roles and the opportunity they have been given... Because this world is always a chance. Despite everything, as we said.
