Azra has a song called 3N (My name is Pola Horvat...), and the title of this column is 3B - with the subtitle Summer Triptych - and three words starting with the letter B: Brammertz, Baumgartner and Ships. An atypical form for these whimsical summer days, followed by a break - the next issue of Art will be published on August 23rd.
Brammertz
Brammertz Paradox: the international war crimes prosecutor says that war crimes have finally become a priority in Montenegro, and I can't even imagine what kind of statistical magic they used to create such an impression in people. Rather, one could say that the glorification of war crimes and their creators has been at its highest level since the 1990s. Perhaps the historical maximum from the infamous decade has been reached. Even today, it seems like official policy. Besides, it is a big secret how this kind of abomination renews itself from era to era. In the same or very similar form.
One would think that even stupidity/abominations would be used up, that they would become thinner, disappear... What kind of magic brings them back in an even more luxurious form is not easy to fathom. What brings the ghost back to life again and again? Where are these wells of black desire that feed so many generations of ignorant and corrupt people? Until we answer these questions, war crimes are not and will not be a priority in Montenegro.
Baumgartner
He died while paragliding. Felix Baumgartner. He was Gagarin for our time, one might say. Of course, the real question is - how accurate, or well-founded, is such a judgment. Look at how the spirit of micro-epochs is readable through the figures of cosmic heroes. Once upon a time, they were insanely brave knights, ready to test all possible limits. Gagarin or Neil Armstrong i Buzz Aldrin...
Of course, the unfortunate Felix also did something insanely brave, it was also a test of limits, but of a somewhat different scope and meaning. It was, simply put, an event that had unsurpassed media reach, but no real scientific significance.
Isn't our time like that? A time of thunderous announcements and screaming, but a time devoid of real breakthroughs, real significance, a noisy time that does not give birth to a new paradigm and does not push boundaries. Rather, it is a time that renews the conservative spirit, the false image of a "comfortable" past, and gives wind to the sails of chewed-up and anachronistic patriarchy.
A time whose heroes are actors and stuntmen, not real characters who really move things.
Ships
Will Montenegro be a Mediterranean country without its own ships? There is talk of abolishing one of the two state-owned shipping companies, although, according to insiders, this would not be very sensible or prudent. It is not a naive or simple question.
Wherever you turn, Montenegro is getting smaller. This is presented to us as general progress. Towards ruin, only... If that is the goal, then everything is going according to plan. We have fulfilled that plan, even through the European one to which we all swear. As before, not to deviate from its path...
But it's not clear to me - the maritime tradition of Montenegro is something that should be binding. Why so cruelly mock something that has been around for so long. Or is it some kind of mega corruption again, who knows... Instead of a story about ships or passengers brought by ships, we read a story about the beating of the mayor of Budva. Here, whoever has state power also has the appearance of a "black three".
And that is already the consciousness of mountain huts that can hardly understand the seas, ships, the Mediterranean. Everything is different there. Not only the music - but also the views, desires, dreams. Manners.
Again, maybe our problem is not the ships, but the captains.
