Cartoonist Predrag Koraksić Koraks passed away on May 16th at the age of 93.

He was one of the most important political cartoonists in the former Yugoslavia, and received numerous domestic and international awards for his work, including the French Legion of Honor.

With his cartoons, he defended the right to free thought and freedom of expression, and his drawings and humor were “a symbol of resistance to authoritarianism, nationalism and abuse of power.” The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, on the occasion of the death of the great cartoonist and one of its founders, states that Koraksić was also a “chronicler of the times,” and that his departure represents “a great loss for the journalistic community, but also for all who believe in the importance of critical thinking and a free society.”

"Vijesti" remembers with pride and respect its cooperation with Korax, when, as a sign of support for the new journalistic endeavor in Montenegro, he prepared a caricature for the cover of the first issue of the newspaper, which was published on September 1, 1997.
