The seventh independent exhibition of paintings by Jelena Međedović was opened on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day, in the "Zahumlja" building in Nikšić.

"Jelena paints nature, life, but not only literally conveys its forms, but imbues them with feelings. Her paintings are a reality unto themselves, motifs soaked in warm tones, joys and sorrows. Despite the variety and intensity of colors with which the artist represents a synthesis of the sensual and emotional, her works contain the most intimate expression of her inner peace and exude the same", said the Vice President of the Municipality, Sonja Nikčević, opening the exhibition.

As she pointed out, the exhibition, which was organized by the "Jelena" Women's Organization in cooperation with the "Zahumlje" JU, was organized in order to contribute to the fight for gender equality and the realization of an even greater social space for women's creativity.

The artist said that March 8 reminds her of women and flowers - "women are the decoration of society, and flowers are the decoration of nature".

"When those two come together, there is an abundance of beauty. The exhibition is an overview of many years of work with love, because all art implies love and without love there can be no art. Painting feeds the soul and the acknowledgment of people's enjoyment of it gives me the strength to go on," said the painter, who is also involved in literature, journalism, and women's rights. She participated in several joint exhibitions, and independently, in addition to Nikšić, she also exhibited in her native Vrbas, Trebinje...

Her beginnings as a painter are linked, as she said, to the painter Ljubomir Stanišić, who opened the first gallery in the town under Trebjes.

"Then, as someone completely ignorant, I came and told him that I would like to paint, but that it was just a wish and nothing more. He gave me brushes, crayons and a manual and that's how everything started," said Međedović.

She presented herself to her fellow citizens with 32 paintings made using the oil on canvas technique.

The event was completed by students Jovana Burić and Janko Kankaraškoji who performed a poetic performance, poets Spasoja Bajović and Slavojka Vojinović who spoke their verses, while the mediator of the evening was professor Bojana Perišić. Miloš Grubač and Miloš Radoš were in charge of the music.
