The exhibition "Icons of the most famous Orthodox saints celebrated in Montenegro" will be opened tomorrow evening, in the Herzegovina Gallery "Joisp Bepo Benković", at 21 p.m.
"Icons (Greek: eikon/image, figure...), as a representative expression of fine art of the Christian Middle Ages, represent works with an exclusively religious theme - figures of Christ, the Mother of God, prophets, saints and saints, and illustrations of numerous events from the history of Christianity. in today's common terminology, the term icon refers primarily to works from the domain of easel painting, characteristic, dominantly for the art of the Orthodox East, derived from the grandiose painting tradition of the Byzantine art culture. The golden age of icon-making art was the period of the Middle Ages.
After the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the Turkish conquests of parts of Southeast Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, the icon in the new political circumstances does not lose its importance, as evidenced by numerous works created during the New Century. The art of painting icons is still relevant today, as evidenced by the works - canonically justified, of painterly quality and with a touch of personal stamp - which are presented to the public in the area of the City Museum "Mirko Komnenović" in Herceg Novi", the art historian wrote in the catalog for the exhibition. Alexander Chilikov.
The exhibition organized by "Galatea Gallery" and JU City Museum "Mirko Komnenović" Herceg Novi, will be opened by the vice-president of the Municipality of Herceg Novi Danijela Đurović.
