The 14th "Guitar art summer fest" (GASF) began with a concert by the Spanish guitarist Danijel Casares on Thursday evening at Trg Mića Pavlović.
"Skillful hands and strings will join with unreal voices to take us through a field of emotions that can only be awakened by superbly performed music. Between the walls of Herzegnov, magical bonds between artists and the audience will emerge, a universal language will connect us all. We will experience beauty and harmony through the sounds of flamenco, fado, blues, jazz, funk, Balkan melodies and, of course, classical guitar. In addition to the great program and guest list, "Guitar art summer fest" has one quality that I like to emphasize - it nurtures its audience and encourages young talents", said GASF Secretary for Culture and Education in the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Ana Zambelić Pištalo, opening the event.
After numerous performances in the world, from Spain, America, Japan to China, Brazil, Morocco and European cities, Casares says that he prepares equally for a concert in, say, New York, and in Novi, and that the most important emotion he arouses in the audience is.
"Herceg Novi is similar to the city where I was born, in Spain, it has that trace of antiquity, narrow streets, the beach is there, and that's all I need for a great feeling and performance," said Casares, who is also a composer. He points out that it was easy to include some of his compositions in the performance in Herceg Novi, because the atmosphere is very inspiring.
Casares is also a composer, and according to him, composing is an intimate, emotional, pure process.
"Each musician best discovers himself that way, what he hides in himself, but also what he can offer and present to the audience. I separate composing from going on stage. It requires a certain amount of responsibility, because to get everything technically right there is a certain amount of pressure, which I still love. Herceg Novi will certainly be an inspiration because wherever I go, I try to insert some rhythm into my tracks", explains Casares.
He advises young musicians "to fall in love with the instrument they play. For me, music and the guitar heal all the wounds that a person can have. It takes a lot of hours of work, but the guitar makes up for it all because the playing and the music can't be replaced. The advice is to play with heart and soul".
The official opening was preceded by a visual journey through a retrospective exhibition of GASF posters and photographs in the "Sue Ryder" gallery on Belavista.
"Guitar art summer fest" will last until August 20. The festival is supported by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi, and is realized in cooperation with "Herceg Fest".
