The works of the Croatian academic painter Matko Vekić, one of the most outstanding individuals of Croatian painting in the last few decades, will be presented tonight in the JU Museum and Gallery Tivat, at 21 pm. It is an independent exhibition called "Vekić's reflection of the social theater", and it includes works from two cycles - "Ordinary people - inner events" and "Mask of the image of God".

The exhibit will be opened by the curator of Vekić's exhibition, Nevenka Šarčević, who pointed out that all visitors "will get an immediate insight into the actuality of contemporary painting, into the experience of Vekić's artistic progressiveness and preoccupation with individual and general questions of civilization."

"In direct access to Vekić's works, one will be able to see why they are intriguing not only to experts, but also to a wider audience. We encounter the motifs of Vekić's paintings in our everyday life: such as cars, insects, the urban landscape of traffic loops and bridges, and the paintings also include female terrorists, body-builders, football players and models, ornaments, masks...", pointed out Šarčević.

She added that a more detailed insight into his artistic creativity also shows that, in addition to "classic painting canvases, he also exhibits installations inspired by the aesthetics of billboards and creates kinetic (moving) paintings."

"He creates his thematic cycles conceptually and ambiently, which often points to the possibility of a double understanding of the themes he presents, since they complement each other in different ways," noted curator Šarčević.

Along with the presentation of authors and works, guitarist Marko Prentić will also perform at the very opening of the exhibition.

Vekić was born in 1970 in Zagreb, where he graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1995 in the class of Đura Seder. He exhibited prominently at numerous solo and collective exhibitions, and his works are in important public and private collections in Croatia and abroad.

The event was supported by the Municipality of Tivat.
