JU City Library Tivat is the organizer of visiting writers Goran Petrović, one of the most important Serbian writers of the last two decades, equally recognized for his unique style and careful cultivation of language, as well as loved for his wonderful themes about ancient and distant people, in which we always end up finding our present.
The literary evening, at which Petrović's novel "Papir sa vodenim znakom", for which he won the Belgrade Winner Award (2023), will be presented tonight at 19 p.m., in the gallery of Buća-Luković summer house in Tivat.
In addition to the author, a university professor, theoretician and literary historian will talk about the novel Alexander Jerkov, and the moderator is the director of the Library Vesna Barbić.
After Tivat, JU Cultural Center "Nikola Đurković" Kotor and the City Library and Reading Room of Kotor are organizing the promotion of the novel "Papir sa vodenim znakom", as well as "Ikonostas" by Goran Petrović, tomorrow at 19 p.m.
Goran Petrović was born in Kraljevo in 1961. He studied Yugoslav and Serbian literature at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade. He worked for a long time as a librarian in the branch of the City Library in Žiča.
He was the chief and responsible editor of the magazine "Povelja" (2003-2010), the chief and responsible editor of the publishing activity of the National Library "Stefan Prvovenčani" in Kraljevo and the editor of the JP "Službeni glasnik".
He published a book of short prose "Advice for an easier life" (1989), novels: "Atlas described by the sky" (1993), "Siege of the Church of Saint Savior" (1997), "Sitničarnica 'Kod srečne ruke'" (2000); collections of short stories: "Island and surrounding stories" (1996), "Bližnji" (2002), "Differences" (2006); books of selected short prose: "Everything I Know About Time" (2003), Family Stories (2011), dramatic text "Scaffolding" (2004), book of records "Searcher" (2007), novella "Under the peeling ceiling" (2010) ), the dramatic text "Matica" (2011) and the book of selected stories "Inner Yard" (2018).
His novels and collections of stories have been published in over 130 editions, of which 60 editions have been translated into French, Russian, Spanish, German, Italian, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Polish, Ukrainian, Macedonian, English, Dutch, Arabic and Persian. About twenty of his stories are represented in anthologies of Serbian stories in the country and abroad. Some of his works have been adapted for theater, television and radio: "Siege of the Church of the Savior" (dramatization and direction Kokan Mladenovic), National Theater Sombor, 2002; Scaffolding (according to his own text), production of the National Theater in Belgrade (directed by Kokan Mladenović), Orašac, 2004; radio-drama "The Virgin and Other Visions" (dramatization Sanja Milić, Direction Nađa Janjetović), drama program of Radio Belgrade, 2007; television movie "Bližnji" (own script, direction Misko Milojevic), drama program of RTS, 2008; radio-drama "Above five dilapidated pots" (dramatization and direction Strahinja Mlađenović), drama program of Radio Novi Sad, 2011; Matica (based on his own dramatic text, director Rahim Burhan), Atelier 212, 2011.
Petrović is the winner of several literary awards. In addition to the literary scholarship of the Borislav Pekić Fund, the most important awards he received were: "Prosvetina", "Meša Selimović", Nino's award for the novel of the year, "Vitalova", "Račanska čartita", the award of the National Library of Serbia for the most read book of the year, "Borisav Stanković ", "Svetozar Ćorović", "Ivo Andrić" prize for short story, "Laza Kostić", prize for dramatic text "Kočić's book", "Knez Lazar's Golden Cross", "Veljkova golubica" for the entire work of storytelling, Grand prize "Ivo Andrić ” for the entire literary creativity, “Stanislav Lem”, “Grigorije Božović”, “Golden Book of Matica Srpska”...
He is a member of the Serbian Literary Society and the Serbian PEN Center. He was elected a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on November 8, 2018.
