In the cultural space of the Santa Maria Church in Stari Grad last night, the audience was presented with the poems of the great Bosnian poet Izet Sarajlić.

Actor Lazar Nikolić, who only a few days ago played a masterful role in this year's City Theater production of "Radovan III", a remake of Dejan Mijač's play from 1996 and an even older cult play by Zoran Radmilović, read the verses in a packed hall.

The evening entitled "Slovenian Elegies of Izet Sarajlić", the evening of the poet who was a member of the famous association of intellectuals "Krug 99" was really a real poetic refreshment for this year's Budva cultural program because it rarely happens that actors read the most beautiful verses of Yugoslav poets.

Izet Sarajlić was a Bosnian historian of philosophy, essayist, translator and poet, born in 1930 in Doboj.

He spent his childhood in Trebinje and Dubrovnik, and in 1945 he settled in Sarajevo, where he would remain until the end of his life, in 2002. He attended a boys' high school in Sarajevo, and entered the world of Yugoslav poetry as a nineteen-year-old, with the poetry collection "U susretu". During his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, he also worked as a journalist and never stopped writing. No one had as much influence on contemporary Bosnian-Herzegovinian poetry as Izet Sarajlić, who was also an academic.

Elegiacness as the most distinctive feature of Sarajlić's emotionality, his understanding of life in general and love as an inevitable light motif, often refer to the romantic poetry of Jesenin.

Wide openness and love for the whole world exude from each of his verses. His poetry achieved extraordinary and lasting popularity thanks to the simplicity of expression imbued with deep sensitivity.

Poet Radomir Uljarević, founder of the "Ćirilicom" festival, and Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Jerkov spoke at the dinner. The program "Round Table: Culture and Models of Reconciliation" is scheduled for tonight, at 21:XNUMX p.m., on the Square between the churches, with the participation of: Bozena Jelušić, Alesandar Jerkov, Siniša Jelušić and others.
