The film "Aureole Microcosm" by a multidisciplinary Montenegrin artist Dimitrija Popović premiered in Zagreb, at the Cultural Center "Histrionski dom". The film was made on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of his birth Petar II Petrović Njegoš, and the author announces that it will be shown in Cetinje and Podgorica in mid-November.

It is a fifteen-minute, documentary, art film directed and scripted by Popović, who is making his directorial debut. Dimitrije Popović's paintings, drawings, sculptures and performance inspired by Njegoš's work were transposed into the medium of film.

The author focuses not only on the mystical, religious and philosophical aspects of Njegoš's work, but also on the phenomenon of eroticism, which, he explains, is necessary for a more complete understanding of Njegoš's work.

"In the short form of an art film, I wanted to show Njegoš as a complex author whose work the role of Eros gives a special dimension to. Njegoš dealt with metaphysical questions, the secrets of the universe, the struggle between God and demons, good and evil, man's persecution and punishment. But that religious-metaphysical dimension it had that no less important mundane life dimension in which we see the bishop as a passionate author of a poem full of eros. In order to unify the different and complex profiles of Njegoš's character, I chose characteristic verses in which one can see the poet's power of thought, intuition and lucidity, lyricism and refinement of imaginative metaphors "Mystic and sensual are the two dominant characteristics of my film," said Popović.

He says that fim is not only a tribute and a symbolic portrait of the tragic nature of the Montenegrin poetic genius, but also an allegory...

"As Njegošev's title 'Aureole Microcosm' says about man's primordial need for artistic creativity," explains Popović.

"Aureole Microcosm" is inspired by the works of a prominent Montenegrin poet and bishop, and offers a contemporary reading and interpretation of his literary work, according to the website of the Zagreb Cultural Center.

"The film represents a symbiosis of different artistic forms and talents, including the interpretation of parts of Njegoš's poetry performed by an actor Sloba Marunović, and sophisticated mounting Željko Petreša, who with his skills further enriched the visual and narrative impression of the film. The film has already caused interest and controversy, especially after the summer performance in Cetinje. The performance, in which pop star Severina and actor Slobo Marunović took part, whose author was Dimitrije Popović, caused stormy reactions and condemnations from the Serbian media, which accused the authors of blasphemy and desecration of Njegoš's character," writes the website of "Histrionski dom" and adds that the mentioned performance is part of the film.

In the film, Popović treats the Montenegrin bishop and poet not only as the creator of the philosophical-mystical and religious song "Luča Mikrokosma", but also as a passionate poet. His song "Night of the Gathering of Ages" is considered one of the most beautiful romantic love songs.
