The digitalization project of cinema halls in Montenegro continues in four municipalities: Podgorica, Bar, Danilovgrad and Tuzim, for which 484 thousand euros have been allocated. The co-financing contracts were signed yesterday by the director of the Film Center Aleksandra Božović and Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović in Podgorica.

The contracts were also signed by the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City Luka Rakcevic, vice president of the municipality of Bar Tanja Spičanović, vice president of the municipality of Danilovgrad Marija Radonjić Ćupić and secretary of the Secretariat for Local Self-Government of Tuzi Municipality Marina Camaj Ujakaj.

Vujović said that this initiative represents a key step for the modernization of the cultural sector, providing numerous advantages for artists, filmmakers, and the audience.

"We are very pleased that with the signing of the contract on co-financing of the project, the digitization of four more cinema halls is planned, namely: the Cultural and Information Center 'Budo Tomović' in Podgorica, the Malesia Culture Center in Tuzi, the Summer Scene of the House of Culture in Bar and the Center for Danilovgrad culture, for which a total of 484 euros have been allocated," said Vujović.

Božović pointed out that this is an important project that involves solving the issue of the necessary infrastructure, which will provide the aforementioned halls and the first summer scene in Montenegro within the Bar Culture Center with modernly equipped spaces for the realization of performance activities.

"This, in the first place, is an attempt to directly influence the development of cinematography in Montenegro, especially in municipalities that until now did not have adequate conditions for the development of the film audience," said Božović.

Rakčević revealed that the digitized cinema hall in KIC Budo Tomović will be named "Kino Kultura", as a tribute to the former Podgorica cinema which was demolished in 2011.

"I believe that from the end of next year the citizens of Podgorica will have the opportunity to enjoy the new digitized cinema space and the new projections that we are all looking forward to. "Today, in some way, we are at least partially correcting a great injustice that was done to our city by the act of demolishing the former building of the 'Kulture' cinema and taking the last public cinema halls where people have attended various film screenings in the last decades", emphasized Rakčević.

The plan is to start digitalization in the next two years in all halls of Montenegrin municipalities that meet the technical capacities, announced the director of the Film Center.

"So far, we have signed 15 contracts for the digitization of movie theaters, nine of which have started working within cultural centers, and all of this cost the Film Center 700 euros," said Božović.

Spičanović pointed out that this project will improve the conditions and the complete environment for the affirmation of art.

"I believe that this contract is just the beginning of a new momentum when it comes to investing in cinema, theater and in general in the culture segment, and I have no doubt that Bar will grow into a recognized and reference center on the cultural map," said Spičanović.

Radonjić Ćupić said that with this project the film is returning to Danilovgrad, and she hopes that the audience will also have the opportunity to enjoy films of the best quality.

"I hope that we will finally be able to bring people back to the cinema," said Radonjić Ćupić.

Ujkaj added that the digitization project is important for the municipality of Tuza and expressed her gratitude to the Film Center and director Božović.

The Minister of Culture said that her department supports initiatives that encourage digital transformation and standardization in the cultural and media sectors. He believes that this "effort is necessary to ensure that our culture remains relevant and competitive in the global context".

"And in the coming period, we will continue to restore and standardize the cinema network, encourage the development of the technical base of cinematography, as well as the professional training of employees in culture centers. These are also priorities recognized by the Law on Cinematography and the National Program for the Development of Cinematography for the period 2018-2023", Vujović summed up. JK
