France will be the "Country of Honor" at this year's, 18th in a row, International Podgorica Book Fair, which will be held at the beginning of May in Podgorica. This was announced at today's press conference by the founder of the Book Fair and director of the "Nova knjiga" publishing house, Predrag Uljarević.
"Given that the institution of the country of honor is important at the Fair, this year a special emphasis and the largest part of the program will be dedicated to French culture. We know that France is one of the world's greatest cultures, and I think that, not only for the Fair, but also for Podgorica and Montenegro, it is extremely important that France is present at our Fair in this way this year," said Uljarević at the conference in Podgorica, at the Kosmos bookstore.
French Ambassador Anne-Marie Maske said that their activities in the field of culture during 2024 are focused on books and writing, which is why she is even more pleased that France will be present at the Book Fair as an honored guest. She announced the concept of the planned activities of the French stand at the Fair, which will have a special program every day during the event.
"We will emphasize comics, literature, fiction, didactics, language. Workshops and conferences will be organized. One special day will be dedicated to writing about the Balkans and Montenegro... All in all, a different program will be implemented every day, and this is opportunity to invite you to accompany as many as possible the activities that we plan to implement within the Fair," said Maske.
Director of the French Institute, Joan Ures, said that some authors from France will be presented to the Podgorica audience on that occasion, but the names have not yet been confirmed, so the public will be informed about it later. He added that part of the activities of the French Institute will be presented at the Fair.
"The role of the French Institute is to enrich the Montenegrin public's access to the French language and French culture through the books and library we own. The French library at our disposal will be expanded in partnership with the French school that was founded in Podgorica and is increasingly developing, so that in partnership we will to work with her to strengthen the library, we will have more and more materials for language learning, and that will be one of our tasks within the framework of participation in the Book Fair," Ures added.
