Last night, the play "Realists" by Jure Karas, directed by Matko Raguž, continued the drama program of the XXXVIII Grad Teatar festival on the stage between the churches.
The award-winning play "Realists" is a production of Exit Theater from Zagreb, and it delighted the Budva audience with its original approach and performance.
"Realists" portray a set of characters whose lives intertwine through a series of scenes that explore the everyday problems and absurdities of modern life, and the play has received numerous awards.
The play deals with topics such as everyday struggles, social relations and existential questions. Through humor and satire, "Realists" remind us of the importance of introspection and critical thinking about our place in the world. The text is permeated with sharp humor and satirical comments, which makes the play dynamic and interesting. The cast, which showed the ability to transform and interpret different characters through acting, dancing, singing and playing different instruments, stood out in particular.
Director Matko Raguž, after the performance in Budva, said that the Budva audience already recognizes the poetics of the Exit theater.
"We have already played a number of our titles here. As for the text by Jure Karas, a Slovenian author, I saw an opportunity for a very "exit" performance. During the work, we refined and changed a lot of things according to what I thought would be good for the play, to make it better. With his approval, I wrote down some scenes and even devised new scenes so that in this experience with the actors and through improvisations, I came up with some new material. The basic material, however, starts from the original text. When you make a man laugh a little, then you can tell him the truth, which will then reach him more easily. I think that is one of the important things in theater, to reach people. "Emotion and laughter change us, and that's why I think that a good theater or a good book can change us in a qualitative way," he said.
Actor Domagoj Ivanković stated that Jure Karas's text was brilliantly written.
"Then came the packaging of serious topics in jokes, and all jokes in more serious matters. So we played with it, we tried to pack it all in order to get one homogeneous mass. The audience always reacts differently, sometimes opinions are divided, but every reaction is welcome. It's the first time we're playing outdoors here in Budva, but we've played on outdoor stages before and somehow it always happened that we play this show near churches. We like to play outdoors, especially in summer and especially when the conditions are as good as in Budva. There are a couple of places in the show where we always improvise and adapt it to the place where we play, these are the most famous pizzeria in town, the worst drivers in the area and the song we start the show with. There was very little improvisation because the text is really well written," Ivanković pointed out.
Actress Nika Ivanćić pointed out that the greatest value of this text is the variety of topics it brings together.
"Wherever we visit and in whatever part of the world we go, everyone can identify with something. The text is absolutely contemporary and reaches everyone. Maybe not every scene, but something will surely touch you. As for the characters, I think we all know them very well, but they are still caricatures that were created during rehearsals, even though we draw them from real life. We all know such people, we all have such neighbors, friends or partners," she said.
In addition to Matko Raguž, who was in charge of translation, adaptation and direction, the author team consists of Ksenija Zec, choreographer, and Mak Vejzović, author of the video clip/trailer. In addition to Ivanković and Ivancić, Nikola Nedić, Rok Juričić and Fabijan Komljenović also play in the play.
