On the stage between the churches, in the continuation of the music program XXXVIII Grad Teatar festival, a concert was held called "Jazz Summit - Remembering Duško Gojković and Nikola Mitrović".
This event, dedicated to the legends of jazz music, brought together exceptional musicians who delighted the audience with their energy and virtuosity. The audience had the opportunity to enjoy a diverse repertoire that included compositions such as "Downtown Talk", "Mimoscope", "Jada", "Mimo from Budva", "Samba Tzigane", "Devojko mala", "Blues for Mimo" and "Menina Power".
This concert, full of emotions and superb music, was a worthy tribute to the great artists Duško Gojković and Nikola Mitrović, leaving a strong impression on all present, which is why the audience asked for an encore twice.
Dragoslav Fredi Stanisavljević, Marko Đorđević, Kori Wilcox, Rastko Obradović, Ljubomir Turajlija, Lazaro Del Toro Vega, Milorad Šule Jovović, Sara Jovović and Martin Đorđević performed.
After the concert, Fredi Stanisavljević said that the evening was extremely special.
"Duško Gojković and Nikola Mimo Mitrović are a big reason why most of the musicians on stage started playing jazz music, but also why we got here thanks to these two greats. This was a kind of our obligation to think about how to remind through music and always draw attention to those who are no longer with us, and who are so important for our entire area, but also for Europe and the world when it comes to jazz music Stanisavljević pointed out and added that we need even more jazz because we have something to be proud of.
"Besides Nikola Mim Mitrović, Montenegro has one Lari Vučković, one Janko Nilović, Šulet Jovović, and now his daughter Sara Jovović, who performed with us tonight and who is so talented and is already a professional. In Serbia, we also have a good jazz scene. We are a gifted people. That former country had six Big Bends, at that time no other country of similar size had that. So we have the continuity of the jazz scene and we should present jazz as much as possible to young people and work to ensure that jazz enters the school system, as is the case everywhere. Then young talented people would not have to go abroad for education."
As Stanisavljević emphasized, Budva and Grad Theater are like a second home to him.
"I am subjective because I have been performing here for decades. This concert is my first performance with the instrument after four and a half years. After a break that happened due to circumstances, my first performance with the instrument was in Budva. I'm still in music, but in some other responsible positions. I took a break and decided that it would be this evening on the stage between the churches", he said.
The special guest of the concert was Željko Vasović from Budva, whose performance especially contributed to the emotional atmosphere of the evening. As he pointed out, the most difficult thing is to play in front of your audience.
"Nevertheless, I am very happy because of the very occasion of this concert. We will only talk about Nikola Mim Mitrović and read books about him. Duško Gojković was also my great friend despite the age difference. He was a big world star, a man who played with all the greatest musicians, starting with Louis Armstrong and ending with all the important artists today. Everyone knew him, not to mention the quality of his playing. There's even a flugelhorn named after him, I think that says it all. This is a very special evening for me," Vasović said and explained that the whole idea for the concert came from Dragoslav Fredi Stanisavljević.
“Freddy played with both of them. I was present at one of Duško Gojković's concerts in Belgrade, where he symbolically and silently handed over the baton to Fredi. He probably considered him his successor. Fredi is often in Budva, he and Marko Đorđević worked very often with Mimo Mitrović. The idea started from him, and then we realized it together in a superb way. Budva always lacks such events, we need to organize as many quality concerts as possible with quality musicians, which the City Theater certainly recognizes".
Sara Jovović said that she was very satisfied with the concert.
"It is a privilege to play this kind of repertoire with such musicians. I am very satisfied with the audience and the atmosphere. I hope there will be more opportunities like this," she said. The program was hosted by Lazar Nikolić and Jelena Ljumović. The music program of the festival continues tonight at 21 pm in the church of Santa Maria in Punta with a concert by double bassist Zoran Zakrajšek and pianist Bojan Martinović.
