The final evening of the Mediterranean Theater Festival "Purgatorija", scheduled for August 31, starting at 21 pm on the summer stage in Tivat, will be marked by the awarding of festival prizes and the performance of the play "Traveling Theater Šopalović".
This theater performance was produced by the Yugoslav Drama Theater, directed by Jagoš Marković based on the text by Ljubomir Simović.
The piece takes us through the Second World War to a small Serbian town, where a group of traveling actors try to put on a theater performance, despite the horrors of war that surround them.
The play stands out for its powerful message about the importance of art, even in the darkest moments of human history.
Jagoš Marković, known for his unique directing style, successfully brought Simović's drama to life, bringing it to the audience in an authentic and emotional way.
"The four actors of Troupe Šopalović, citizens of occupied Užice, occupiers, collaborators of the occupiers, executioners and victims, are in the same reality, which they understand differently. When is the time for the theater and when is it not, is just one of the questions that the play carries. On the one hand we have misery, banality, hatred, politics, evil, cruelty... and on the other hand, theater, beauty, art, faith, utopia... We also have the unparalleled spark of God contained in talent. It is clear that we are talking about the defense of art and the defense of the theater. That life we all spend in the theaters. It is also a dedication to us poor people in the theaters and to all those who have left us, and most of all to those who will come," said the director of this play, the late Jagoš Marković .
