On the occasion of the 31st World Heritage Cities Solidarity Day, the Kotor "Museums" are organizing an exhibition of Dobrot lace works "An old skill for a new era" on Sunday, September 8, which will be opened at 10 a.m. in front of the Cathedral of St. Tripun.
"This two-hour program will have elements of a performance, because next to the stands will be positioned participants of our workshops who, on the spot, accessible to the views, will tie this noble embroidery, the craft of which Montenegro has protected as an intangible cultural asset. The lace and its embroidery are a step towards the citizens and female citizens at the place of their regular meetings, in the ambience of the most important city square", says the announcement of this event.
World Heritage Cities Solidarity Day is commemorated on September 8, 1993, when the Organization of World Heritage Cities was founded.
Dobrota lace is a type of lace originating from Dobrota, a settlement in the Bay of Kotor, in the immediate vicinity of Kotor. It is unique in the way it is made and recognized as such in the world's scientific and cultural circles. The skill of making Dobrot lace was passed down through the generations, from the 12th to the 20th century.
This lace in Dobrot comes from Venice via Dalmatia. In 2013, this skill was declared the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Montenegro.
