Like some parallel dimension or what the human species leaves behind, images work Ivan Đurišić presented at his solo exhibition "Algorithm Deconstruction" in Podgorica. The exhibition was opened on Tuesday evening in the Modern Gallery, in front of a large audience.
He deconstructs, exposes and x-rays penetrates on his canvases into a world and life that combines fantasy, metaphysics, and even electronics, and the works selected for the exhibition only confirm Đurišić's dedication to researching deeply complex and mystical processes and visions.
Peering deeper into the richness of imagination and abstract constructions, Đurišić's abstract landscapes seem to hover between dream, reality and hallucination, while sucking the viewer into a kind of futuristic or post-apocalyptic world, which really deconstructs any kind of set or assumed algorithm.
Scenes full of details, through a palette of darker tones, lively lines and mysterious shapes, act as spaces of elusive dimensions that seem to appear from the darkness, thus carrying with them a dose of mystery and powerful symbolism. Each work seems like a small world of its own, but also as a part of a larger puzzle, and as the viewer observes the works individually or together, their own associations, interpretations, or even reconstructions of what they see are created.
What is additionally interesting in this series of works are the titles of the works: "Dangerous Meadow", "Secret of a Balcony", "Osama", "Abandoned", "Visit", "Partzy", "The Schism of (Mental) Athens", " Tearing away", "Awakening"... Each title carries weight, not only as a word and a feeling, but also as a hint, a guide that directs the viewer into the symbolic labyrinths of the painting. It is as if Đurišić is giving visitors a puzzle in which each title is the key to decoding, while the ultimate meaning remains mysterious and left to the viewer.
The unique and powerful works of Ivan Đurišić exhibited in the Modern Gallery, from the very entrance to the last large-format work, place the visitor in a space and state that demands emotion, reaction, reflection, leaving an engraved mark. The exhibition encourages a kind of introspective journey through the unconscious, seeking reflection on algorithms as a concept, but also on the decomposition of contemporary structures and rules, showing that no matter how complex structures are - they can be taken apart.
