Solo exhibition "In Search of Something" by one of the most prominent contemporary sculptors Richard Deacon will be opened tomorrow in Podgorica, in the Modern Gallery of the Museums and Galleries of Podgorica, at 20 p.m.
The curators of the exhibition are Mirjana Dušić i Ljuba Jovićević, and the text for the accompanying catalogue was written by art historian Prof. Dr. Jasmina Cubrilo, while she was in charge of the catalog design Isidora M. NikolićThe exhibition was realized in cooperation with the DOTS Gallery, Belgrade, with the support of the British Embassy in Montenegro and the British Council Montenegro.
At the opening of the exhibition, the following will address the attendees: Minister of Culture and Media of Montenegro Tamara Vujović, British Ambassador to Montenegro Don Meken, Director of the Public Institution Museums and Galleries of Podgorica Nina Vukcevic, as well as the artist Richard Deacon himself.
Richard Deacon was born in Wales in 1945 and is today a leading British sculptor and winner of numerous prestigious awards. After major exhibitions around the world, he will present his works from five cycles created over the past years to the Montenegrin audience. As part of the exhibition “In Search of Something”, Deacon will present works in Podgorica that have not been exhibited before.
"Throughout his decades-long career, Deacon has distinguished himself with a distinctive approach to sculpture, constantly experimenting with different materials such as laminated wood, polycarbonate, fabrics and clay. His sculptures combine organic forms and technical elements, creating unique works of art," the statement said.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Turner Prize and a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, and was awarded the title CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for his contributions to the arts.
At this exhibition, Deacon will present works that have not been exhibited before, announced the Museum and Gallery of Podgorica.
